Summerlin - Scales
Nuptials At Monroe.
Miss Jennie Summerlin of Monroe,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lee
and Mr. Charlie Wriston Scales of
Charlotte were married Saturday
evening at 9 o'clock at the home
of the bride on Church street, Rev.
John A. Wray, pastor of the First
Baptist church performing the
ceremony.
The wedding music was played by
Miss Gene Ashcraft and Mrs. Geo.
F. Rutzler of Charlotte, sang
"Because."
The vows were spoken in the music
room in front of a gorgeous array
of white roses and sweet peas
interspersed with snow balls.
The only attendant was Miss Nora
Lee the bride and bridegroom
entering the room together preceded by
Miss Burdette Scales, the beautiful
little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex
Scales in a dainty hand made dress
of white and Pink ribbons, carrying
the ring in the center of a lovely
white bouquet.
The bride wore a handsome white
georgette dress trimmed in silver
lace and a large hattenburg hat
carrying a shower bouquet of bride's
roses and sweet peas. The bride's
attendant wore a gown of orchid taffeta.
Only the members of the two
families and a few intimate friends
attended the wedding.
The ceremony was followed by a
reception for the guests present and
later Mr. and Mrs. Scales left for
a short trip and on their return will
make their home with Mr. and Mrs.
J. I.. Scales at their home here.
Receiving with the bride and
bridegroom and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lee,
were the guests from out of town
assisted by Misses Elizabeth Williams,
Mary Secrest Eleanor Gurney,
Ruth Scales and Pat Ashcraft.
Mrs. Scales is a young woman of
culture. charm and rare beauty of
person and character. She has been
a most successful high school teacher,
her school closing last week.
Mr. Scales holds a responsible
position with the American Telephone
and Telegraph Company, being located
in Charlotte. He has been overseas
for past two years and is now
held in the naval reserves as chief
electrician.
