Spalding - 50th
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Spalding of Monroe City will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the K of C Hall in Monroe City.
Jo Anne Bruseke, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Herman J. Bruseke of Springfield, Ill., and James Spalding, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Spalding of Monroe City, were united in marriage on May 31, 1954, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, Ill.
Mary Jeanne Wochner, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Jerry Spalding, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
Other attendants were Mary Jane Smith Konrad, Mary Spalding, Jack Spalding, Joe Wochner and Fred Schlosser.
They are the parents of four children, Julie (Mark) Leake of Kirksville, Jane (Keith) Crowe of Hunnewell, Jim Jr. (Diana) of O'Fallon, Ill., and Joni (Steve) Karr of Stoutsville.
They have 10 grandchildren, Aaron (Tricia) Crowe, Emily (Mike) Potter, Adam (Jamie) Crowe, Valerie King, Adair Crowe, Lauren and Karen Spalding, Nik Schroff, and Matt and Charlie Karr; three step grandchildren, Joe, Bryan and Kelly Leake; and three great-grandchildren, Blaine Potter and twins Cambria and Tavia Crowe.
The Spaldings met while attending the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
They were married while Mr. Spalding was in the service.
They returned to Monroe City in 1955, and purchased and operated Spalding Pharmacy in Monroe City.
They are members of Holy Rosary Church in Monroe City.
They now spend their winters in Arizona.
