Wedding – Blake-Miskimen
Did you hear there was a wedding at Hennis Care Centre of Dover?
For the past few weeks the Hennis staff prepared for the Sept. 9, 2009, wedding of Scott Miskimen of New Philadelphia, O., and Jennifer Blake of Sugarcreek, O., a physical therapy assistant for five years at Hennis. Scott, a carpenter for Bill Hutras Construction for 25 years, has been doing construction projects at HCC for many years.
Well, cupid shot an arrow from Scott to Jen, and the staff and residents watched the romance blossom. They had intentions of getting married in Mexico (but paperwork difficulty scratched that idea), then thought of the courthouse.
David Hennis suggested it would mean so much to the residents if they would have their wedding at HCC. The “Hennis family” followed their courtship and engagement so getting married at Hennis Care Centre was a perfect fit. It came together beautifully, and they were delighted. The ladies made corsages, with help from Eileen Smith of the activity department, to wear to the wedding. People were buzzing about the big day and everyone counted down the days together (and quizzed Scott on that number).
The back patio of Rehab, the wedding site, was filled with summer and fall flowers at the decorated pergola. Fingers were crossed for good weather, and then the date was here.
A sunny, pleasant day developed and decorations and canopies went up. The flowers and food came out, catered by HCC Dining Services, as did all the guests. Live music was provided by vocalist Randy Valez. It was a beautiful ceremony, and the bride and groom were surrounded by friends and family for their 2:30 p.m. marriage service for which Dale Gowins officiated.
The bride wore an elegantly flowing white A-line dress with a shirred empire bodice and hand-beaded waistband, and a shoulder-length veil with beaded trim. Her gold and white gold princess cut necklace, earrings and bracelet were gifts from Scott.
Staff and residents joined the wedding party inside the decorated dining room for the reception.
Jen is the daughter of Willie and Shirley Hershberger of Trail, O. Scott is the son of Iona and Charles Emert of Dover, O., and Hugh and Sandra Miskimen of New Philadelphia.
Tracy Shutt of Sugarcreek, the bride’s sister, was maid of honor. Mike Wallace of New Philadelphia served as best man.
Jennifer is a 1991 graduate of Hiland High School and a 1994 graduate of Kent State. Scott is a 1982 graduate of Dover High School.
The couple honeymooned at a resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico and are residing at 414 Luzern St. SW, Sugarcreek.
