Miss Millicent Lea Thornton and Mr. Jason Eric Mills were united in marriage on Saturday, October 9, 1999, at half past four o'clock in the afternoon at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church, Thomasville, North Carolina. Paster E. Keith Carroll officiated. Music was provided by Pastor Stephen Storey, organ, Helen Rifas, harp, Linda Brown, flute, and Selina Carter, cello. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Diane Crouse of Thomasville. Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a reception at Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point, Badin Lake, North Carolina. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Memorial United Methodist Church, Thomasville, North Carolina. The bridesmaids luncheon was held on Saturday, October 2, at Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. Robert Glenn Thornton, junior, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Neil Wagoner, senior, all of Greensboro. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Monroe Ownbey of Greensboro, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glenn Thornton, senior. She is the step-granddaughter of Mrs. Geraldine T. Wagoner of Greensboro. She attended Grimsley High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She is currently seeking an MBA degree and is employed as a Marketing Coordinator with Liberty Hardware Mfg. Corp. in Greensboro.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bruce Mills of Thomasville, North Carolina. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mills and Mr. and Mrs. J.C. McLain, all of Thomasville. He is the great-grandson of Mrs. Margaret Mills of Corbin, Kentucky, and the late Mr. Emory Mills. He is a graduate of North Davidson High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is employed as a Product Manager with Product Management Incorporated, Kansas City, Missouri, and serves as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father. She was attended by Mrs. Jennifer May Surmons of Lexington, North Carolina, as Matron of Honor and Miss Kimberly Ann Burris of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Erin Everton Woyahn of Greensboro, Miss Christie Marie Ownbey of Greensboro, cousin of the bride, and Miss Laura Elizabeth Mills of Thomasville, cousin of the groom. Honorary Bridesmaids were Miss Jennifer Caroline Kendrick of Greensboro, Miss Sarah Emily McClintock of Greensboro, cousin of the bride, and Miss Monica Maley Mills of Thomasville, cousin of the groom.
The groom chose his father, Mr. Gary Bruce Mills, as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. James Paul Mills of Thomasville, brother of the groom, Mr. Jacob Bruce Mills of Thomasville, brother of the groom, Mr. Michael Neil Wagoner, junior of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, step-brother of the bride, and Mr. Brandon Surmons of Lexington, North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. George McClintock of Greensboro, aunt and uncle of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. William Mills of Thomasville, aunt and uncle of the groom, greeted guests at the reception.
Following a wedding trip, the couple will reside in Greensboro.
