Miss Mary Ann Weds Douglas C. Parent
Miss MaryAnn Bekkedahl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bekkedahl of Westfield, was married on Saturday, May 16, 1998 to Douglas Charles Parent of New York. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Parent of Westborough, Massachusetts.
The Reverend Orlanda Brugnola of the United Universalist Church in Brooklyn performed the afternoon ceremony on the beach at the Surf and Tennis Club in Bridgehampton, New York. A reception was also held at the club.
The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a custom-designed gown of french silk Shantung with embroidery by Birnbaum and Bullock of New York City. She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Barbara Bekkedahl Tanner of Ridgewood, the sister of the bride, served as the matron of honor. The bridal attendants included Mrs. Carolyn Bekkedahl Skrak of New York City and Ms. Alison Bekkedahl of Barcelona, Spain, both sisters of the bride.
The matron of honor and bridal attendants wore silk Shantung dresses by Serafina of New York, and carried bouquets of white sweet peas.
Miss Julia Skrak of New York City and Miss Margo Tanner of Ridgewood, the nieces of the bride, were the flower girls.
Alex Rapp of Dallas, Texas was the best man. The ushers were Michael Deneen of Belmont, Massachusetts; Chris Rice of Boulder, Colorado and Craig McGiffin of Denville.
Russell Tanner of Ridgewood was the ring bearer.
The bride graduated from Westfield High School in 1986 and from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1990. She is employed as an advertising sales manager with Men’s Health Magazine in New York.
The bridegroom graduated from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1989, and obtained his Master in Business Administration Degree from Harvard Business School in 1997. He is employed as a senior consultant with Andersen Consulting in New York.
The rehearsal party was held at The Farmhouse in Amagansett, New York. Bridal showers were given by Mrs. William Plant of Westfield and Mrs. Ernest Federici at the Federici home in Westfield, and by Mrs. Kevin Joyce and the mother of the bridegroom in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
A shower and bachelorette party was hosted by Mrs. Skrak and Mrs. Tanner at Mrs. Skrak’s residence.
Following a two-week wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple reside on the other Upper East Side in New York City.
