Garland and Susie Sprinkle Swaim of Elkin were honored for their 70th wedding anniversary with a reception attended by family, friends and church members on Sunday, Oct. 28, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church fellowship hall.
The couple were married on Oct. 30, 1937, in Danville, Va.
Hosts for the reception were the Swaim's children, Cheryl (Phil) Hinshaw of Winston-Salem, Roger Swaim and Ronnie (Wanda) Swaim of Elkin; grandchildren, Todd (Mallie) Hinshaw, Darrin Hinshaw, Angie Swaim and Beth Swaim and great-grandsons, Ryley Hinshaw and Nickolaus Lawrence.
Mr. Swaim is the retired owner of R.G. Swaim Decorating Co. and Mrs. Swaim is a homemaker.

[Obituary of Susie Swaim: "Mrs. Susan E. Sprinkle Swaim, age 95, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Swaim was born May 19, 1920 in Surry County to James Arthur and Lillie Hinson Sprinkle. Mrs. Swaim was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and loved to cook, especially, gravy and hoe cake. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband R. Garland Swaim; four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: her sons, Roger S. Swaim of the home and Ronald J. Swaim and wife Wanda of Elkin; daughter, Cheryl S. Hinshaw and husband Phil of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Darrin J. Hinshaw, Todd Hinshaw and wife Mallie, Angie Swaim and Beth Recchio and husband Joey; great-grandchildren, Ryley J. Hinshaw and Nickolaus Lawrence; step-great-grandchildren, Jonathan Murray, Bobby Murray and Samantha Murray; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family request memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 North Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621. [Obituary of Garland Swaim: "Former prominent Elkin businessman Mr. Roger "R.G." Garland Swaim, age 91 of S. Wall Street, Elkin, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at Dunmore Plantation in Dobson. Mr. Swaim was born December 30, 1917 in Yadkin County to Ernest L. & Julia Nicholson Swaim. Mr. Swaim was owner of R.G. Swaim Decorating Company and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was in the choir, men's chorus and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Quartet. He was an avid fisherman and loved his family. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvis Swaim, E.L. Swaim and "Buddy" Edworth Swaim. Survivors include: his wife, Susan E. Swaim of the home; two sons, Roger S. Swaim and Ronnie J. Swaim and wife Wanda all of Elkin; a daughter, Cheryl S. Hinshaw and husband Phil of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Vonda McBride of Jonesville, Edna Wagoner Ingool and husband Jack of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Darrin J.
