Mitchell - Fitzgerald

SIKESTON - Melissa Ann Mitchell and Corwin Christopher Fitzgerald exchanged wedding vows in a 6 p.m. ceremony June 2, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. Dr. Jim Davis and the Rev. Sandra Schaller performed the ceremony. Richard Mitchell of Hamptonville, N.C., uncle of the bride, read "Today I Marry My Best Friend."

Adorning the sanctuary were candelabras decorated with silver ribbons. Candle globes with black and silver ribbons were placed on the pews and plants of fern complemented the scenery.

The bride is the daughter of Rick and Charlotte Mitchell and Bobby and Eunice Gentry and granddaughter of Paul and Betty Mitchell and the late Ernest Gates.

The bridegroom is the son of Terry and Sherry Fitzgerald and grandson of Jim and Marilyn Baker and the late W.W. Fitzgerald and Catherine Fitzgerald.

Music was provided by organist Donna Evans and vocalists Jackie and Austin Huls. Selections included, "Because You Loved Me" by Celene Dion, "You Light Up My Life," "Butterfly Kisses," "I Do" and "It's Your Love."

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white satin gown created by Alfred Angelo which featured an off-the-shoulder bodice with a sweetheart neckline and short sleeves.

Cascades of pearls and sequins adorned the gown which was complemented with a chapel train and double layered fingertip veil, which was held with a pearl tiara. The bridal bouquet, which featured white cala lilies, white roses and greenery accents, was created by the bride's mother.

Sarah Morgan of Sikeston attended her friend as maid of honor and matron of honor was Crystal Pulliam of Sikeston, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Hiliary Sever of Cape Girardeau, friend of the bride, Laura Mitchell of Sikeston, sister-in-law of the bride and Krisie Kuppart of Jackson, friend of the bride.

The maid and matron of honor wore black satin gowns styled with a V-neck, scoop back and train, complemented with empire waistlines which were accented with sequins. The bridesmaids' gowns were of the same design in silver fabric, and all were made by the mother of the bride. Their bouquets of white and red roses with black and silver accents were also created by the bride's mother.

Best man was Casey Kuppart of Jackson, friend of the bridegroom and groomsmen were David McKay, Will Hunter, Stuart Matthews and Dave Swilley of Sikeston. Jason Mitchell and Ryan Mitchell of Sikeston, brothers of the bride, served as ushers.

Flower girl was Tori Fitzgerald of Sikeston, niece of the bridegroom, and ring bearer was Clayton Pulliam of Sikeston, nephew of the bride.

Monica Gentry of Sikeston, sister of the bride, and Seth Baker of Sikeston, cousin of the bridegroom, were candlelighters. Greeters were Tiffany Gentry and Jessica Gentry of Sikeston, sisters of the bride; and Emily Thatcher of Sikeston, friend of the bride, attended the guest book.

The reception was held at the Ramada Inn Banquet Room, hosted by the family of the bride, where a three-tiered wedding cake, created by "My Daddy's Cheesecake" featured Venetian lace frosting and a water fountain at the bottom and was topped with fresh cala lilies. The groom's cheesecake was decorated with a hunting scene.

Entertainment for the reception was provided by Pro Music.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the bridegroom's parents at the Sikeston Country Club.

The bridesmaids and Charlotte McMikle were hostesses of a bridal shower at the McMikle residence and a dinner party was given by Jane Campbell at her home.
