WILMINGTON, N.C. — The wedding ceremony uniting Sara Vivian Rawlings and Christopher Stephen Levesque took place Sept. 27, 2008 at 5 p.m. at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, N.C.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pope Rawlings of Courtland. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Dean Cox of Galax. She is the paternal granddaughter of the late Sen. and Mrs. William Vincent Rawlings of Capron.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Roland Levesque of Raleigh, N.C. He is the maternal grandson of Mrs. Sam Raimondi and the late Sam Raimondi of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and the paternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Levesque Jr. of Orlando, Fla.
The Rev. Robert Jeffrey Bauman, pastor of the Wrightsville United Methodist Church, officiated the double-ring ceremony. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
Ashley Brooke Rowe of New York City, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Angela Mary Levesque of Raleigh, sister of the groom; Katherine Smith Campbell of Haymarket; Ann Marie Coolick of Arlington; Margaret Gregson Hess of Salt Lake City, Utah; Caroline Zatarain Jenkins of Denver, Colo.; Mary Madeline Lamb of Rochelle; and Kelly Anne White of Charlottesville, all friends of the bride.
Arden Francis Marsh of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, served as junior bridesmaid.
Bernie Elizabeth Boden of Silver Spring, Md., Erica Lynn Joyner of Alexandria, Ashley Susan Seppala of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Jessica Leonard Seppala of Reston, Erin Elizabeth Steinhagen of Arlington and Christine Stora Taylor of Centreville were honored as the House Party, friends of the bride at the Chi Omega Sorority House at Virginia Tech.
Nicholas James Levesque of Wilmington, brother of the groom, served as best man.
Groomsmen were William Vincent Rawlings II, brother of the bride, of Virginia Beach; Jasiah Ryan Bell of Wilmington; Michael John Paglia of West Palm Beach Fla.; Matthew Allen Shaner of Solomons, Md.; and Christopher Lee Reno of Raleigh, N.C., all friends of the groom.
Peyton McRay Sodemann of Raleigh, N.C., cousin of the bride, served as the ring bearer.
The pillow, which he carried, was made of satin and lace from the bride’s great-great-grandmother’s wedding trousseau.
Ushers were Douglas Rawlings Dyer of Atlanta, Ga. and Robert Haven Wiley III of New York City, cousins of the bride; Bryan Onofrio Raimondi and Jason Michael Raimondi of Davie, Fla., cousins of the groom.
Catherine Eley Dyer of Columbia, S.C. and Emily Vivian Salyers of Christiansburg, cousins of the bride, presented wedding program to the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Gregory George Rohde of Wilmingotn, friends of the couple, presided over the guestbook.
Guests were welcomed to the gardens and guided throughout the celebration by Ashley Krusa Levesque, sister-in-law of the couple, Robin Michelle Clarke, Emily Matkins Harris and Colleen Connors Gardener, all of Wilmington, and friends of the couple.
The Concordia Strings of the Wilmington Symphony provided wedding music. Soloist, Jay Gannon Sims of Durham, N.C., cousin of the bride, sang “Shine On Us” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Lectors were Katrina Lynn Bowen of Greenville, N.C., cousin of the groom and Carey Willey Sims of Durham, cousin of the bride.
Following the ceremony a reception was held in Airlie Gardens. A memory table consisting of candles and pictures of the couple’s late grandparents and the bride’s uncle, Larry Michael Cox, glowed throughout the evening.
After a honeymoon to Hawaii, the couple will reside in Wilmington.
Parties
On Jan. 18-20, Mrs. Art Rawlings hosted a weekend for the bride-to-be and her attendants at Nody’s Place, the Rawlings’ family beach home, at Wrightsville Beach, N.C. The guests enjoyed dinner and a Bon-Bon patty at the South ’n France in historical Wilmington.
Mrs. Clarke Fox and Mrs. Trent Fox honored the bride with a bridal breakfast at the home of Mrs. Clarke Fox in Capron on April 19. Lovely arrangements of spring flowers adorned the home.
On the evening of April 19, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Railey Jr. and Edith Rose hosted a dinner party honoring the bride and groom at the Railey’s home in Courtland. Red roses were visible throughout all of the evening’s events.
Mary Levesque, Angela Levesque and Regina McCrorie hosted a luncheon and miscellaneous shower with a beach theme in honor of the bride on May 10 at the home of Mary Levesque in Raleigh.
On May 25, Mary Madeline Lamb, Katie Campbell and Kelly White honored the bride with a “Hostess With The Mostest” shower and luncheon at the Lamb home in Rochelle. Favors were designed and hand-painted by Ann Marie Coolick.
The bride and groom were honored with an Evening on the Porch at the Pace House Inn in Franklin hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pope and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rawlings on June 20. A cocktail buffet party was accompanied with the Four Soul jazz band playing throughout the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernie Francis Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Clay Francis honored the couple with a cocktail buffet and kitchenware and lawn shower by the pool at 5 p.m. on June 21 at Windy Hill, home of Vernie and Esther Francis in Courtland. “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” was the theme of the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rose hosted a cocktail buffet party in honor of the couple on July 26. The party took place on the veranda at the Rose’s home in Courtland.
The following morning family, friends and out-of-town guests of the bride and groom were entertained with a brunch at the Southern Sisters in Courtland hosted by Leanne Alexander, Olivia Claud, Lisa Edwards, Beth Francis, Mary Ann Francis, Shari Gray, Peggy Jones, Patsy Marks, Nancy Partridge, Melissa Rose and Donna Roundtree.
A dinner party was given in honor of the couple on Aug. 21 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Sodemann in Raleigh. Hosting the India theme party were the Sodemann’s, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. McRay Francis and Mr. and Mrs. Scott Marsh.
Ashley Rowe hosted the bride and her attendants with a weekend in New York City, Aug. 8-10. The guests enjoyed the Five Course High Tea at Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon at The Inn at Irving Place.
On the morning of Aug. 16, a breakfast and lingerie shower was given in honor of the bride-to-be at the Pace House Inn in Franklin.
Carolyn Beale, Theresa Applewhite, Anne Babb, Frances Keene and Nancy Rowe honored the bride with an afternoon tea at the Beale home in Courtland on Aug. 16. Guests presented the bride with their favorite recipe for her collection.
A cocktail party honoring the bride was given by Christy Rohde, Colleen Gardner and Emily Harris at the home of Christy Rohde in Wilmington on Sept. 13.
Mr. and Mrs. S.V. Camp III honored the bride-elect, her attendants, family and friends at a bridesmaid luncheon at the City Club of de Rosset, a historical home in downtown Wilmington on Sept. 26. The bride presented her attendants with a gift of jewelry to be worn at the wedding.
Following the rehearsal, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Levesque honored the couple, family and members of the wedding party with a beach theme dinner party on the porches of the Rawlings family beach home. The bride and groom presented gifts to the members of their wedding party.
Music by the Caribbean-style steel drum band of the Wilmington Big Band was enjoyed throughout the evening.
Following the rehearsal dinner, the wedding party, family and out-of-town guests were entertained with a cocktail party and dance at the Shell Island Resort in Wrightsville Beach. Hosting the party were Warren Beale, Sharon Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Pixley, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Smith, Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Granville Tilghman.
A post wedding brunch was held Sept. 28 honoring the bride and groom, family and out-of-town guests at The Blue Water on the Waterway at Wrightsville Beach, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dyer, Douglas Dyer and Catherine Dyer.
The newlyweds were honored with a post wedding cocktail party upon the return from their honeymoon. The party was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Levesque at their home in Wilmington on Oct. 11.
