Cooke - Porter
FRANKLIN — Amanda “Mandy” Porter of Margarettsville, N.C. and James Thomas Cooke Jr. of Newsoms, exchanged vows during a 7 p.m. riverside ceremony Aug. 23, 2009 at the Bronco Rod and Gun Club in Franklin.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin R. Porter of Margarettsville.
She is the granddaughter of Calvin C. Woodard and the late Kathleen Adams Woodard of Margarettsville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin “Benji” Porter of Boykins.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas “Gomer” Cooke Sr. of Boykins. He is the grandson of Eugenia Morris and the late Gilbert Morris of Emporia, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Cooke of Boykins.
The Rev. Kenneth Williams performed the nuptial ceremony.
A program of wedding music was provided by DJ Wayne Cooke, cousin of the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a strapless champagne satin gown by Michaelangelo.
For her headpiece, the bride chose a silver rhinestone tiara with a champagne satin trimmed veil.
She carried a hand held bouquet of 15 ivory roses designed by the bride’s sister, Reneé Maddrey.
Reneé Maddrey of Pendleton, N.C. sister of the bride, served as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Dawn Cox of Capron and Christi Brantley of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., both friends of the bride, and Sandy Peden of Boykins, sister of the bridegroom.
Serving as flower girl was Carlee Blair Maddrey of Pendleton, niece of the bride.
Ring bearer was Gavin Porter Maddrey of Pendleton, nephew of the bride.
James Thomas “Garner” Cooke Sr. served as his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were W.J. Porch of Capron, brother of the bridegroom, Brian Futrell of Courtland and Henry Nurney of Capron, both friends of the bridegroom.
Amy Porch of Capron, sister-in-law, of the bridegroom served as mistress of ceremonies.
The bride is a 1999 graduate of Halifax Academy and a 2002 graduate of Southampton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She is employed with Southampton Memorial Hospital.
The bridegroom is a 1996 graduate of Southampton High School. He is presently employed with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Department.
The couple enjoyed a honeymoon trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and now resides in Newsoms.
A dinner and dance reception was held immediately following the ceremony. Food was prepared by Lawrence Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jarrett.
Pictures were taken and gifted by Holly Ledbetter, cousin of the bridegroom.
Videography was taken and gifted by Carolyn Nurney. The cake was made and gifted by Mandy Futrell, and served by Tina Flythe of Conway, N.C. and Kim Daniels of Washingtn, N.C., both cousins of the bride.
An after rehearsal dinner catered by Holly Cove Catering in Hunterdale was held Aug. 22.
A gift card shower was held July 12 at the couple’s home and given by Reneé Maddrey, Erik Neave, Dawn and Scott Cox, Patricia Whitehead, Christi and Brian Brantley, and Kim and Tony Daniels.
On July 13, a miscellaneous shower was held at the couple’s home and given by Sandy Peden.
A miscellaneous shower was held on Aug. 18 given by co-workers of the bride at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
