Whims anniversary
Evelyn and William D. "Bill" Whims of 10379 S. Fairway Drive., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party attended by more than 80 guests at the the club at Marine Corps Air Station.
The event was hosted by the couple's five children and spouses.
Their children ae Kathy Farrar of Tucson, Ariz.; Donald L. Whims of Chicago, Ill.; Martin A. Whims of Akron, Ohio; Diane Stewart of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and David Whims of Ravenna, Ohio.
There are 13 grandchildren.
Mrs. Whims is the former Evelyn Houston.
The couple's native town is Akron.
They married Jan. 26, 1951 in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
They have lived in Yuma since 1988.
Whims is retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1970.

[Obituary of William Whims: "William Dean Whims, 84, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away on December 13, 2013. A Memorial Service was held on December 17, in Tucson, Ariz. A Military Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in June where his ashes will be interred. He was born in Ellet, Ohio to George Forrest Whims and Marjorie Marion (Morter) Whims, on January 4, 1929. He attended school in Ellet, Ohio but graduated from Akron Central. He was a Boy Scout and served many years as a Scout leader. He had many jobs during his life, starting as a paper boy at a young age. He attended The University of Akron. As a Marine Reservist, he was activated and sent to Korea in 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean War, the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam, as well as other conflicts. He served in the United States Marine Corps and retired as a CWO-2 in 1970. He was awarded numerous medals while serving his country. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Evelyn L. (Houston) Whims, as well as his five children, Katherine Farrar (Jerry), Donald Whims (Ruth), Martin Whims (Julie), Diane Stewart (Jeffery), David Whims (Sharon); 15 grandchildren, Jeffrey Farrar, Briana Gryzynger (Andrew), Joshua Farrar (Vanessa), William Whims, Andrew Whims, Matthew Whims, Martin Whims II (Dawn), Brian Whims, Paul Stewart (Valerie), Robin Stewart, Daniel Stewart, Mary Elizabeth Pipes (David), Emily Whims, Megan Partezana, Breann Partezana, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Edward Dean Whims; mother, Marjorie M. Whims; father, George Forrest Whims; and brother, Robert B. Whims.
