Joe and Rose Scharl celebrate 50th

On Sept. 17, 2006, Joe and Rose Scharl renewed their wedding vows for their 50th wedding anniversary.

The couple were married Sept. 17, 1956.

The ceremony was held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Woodland with Pastor Dick Mathews officiating the service.

Songs of love were sung by the couple's friend, Teresa Paine.

Welcome and tribute to parents was given by their daughter Sandy Graham of Sacramento and their son Steve Scharl of Kaneohe, Hawaii.

A song of commitment was sung by a friend, Lisa Horst.

The Scharls have two additional sons, Mike and Rich Scharl. Many friends and relatives from different parts of the globe came to celebrate this occasion.

A reception followed with many of the guests congratulating the couple on their 50 years together.

The theme for the celebration was Hawaiian.

Everyone in the wedding party was dressed in Hawaiian attire and the family greeted all guests with necklaces of shells and flowers.

A video of the Scharls' life was presented.

Joe served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and three months, at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan.

After retiring in 1974, the couple moved to Woodland and Joe worked part time for the Sacramento Bee, retiring again in 2002.

Rose worked for Suburban Propane Company for 17 years and retied from there.

Then she worked part time at numerous offices.

In 1984 she went to work part time for the Sacramento Bee and also retired in 2002.

The couple keep busy doing things and spend their extra time helping out at their church, The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Woodland.

They both are involved in the Clothes Closet, the Woodland Adventist Christian School and the Visitation Program for Families.

In their spare time they take vacations.
