Ray and Erma Holquin celebrate 50th
Erma and Raymon Holguin Sr. of El Paso, Texas celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a dinner at Heidrick Banquet Hall in Woodland (California) on Aug. 5, 2006.
The event was hosted by their children, Evelyn Holguin, Yolanda Torres and her husband Rigo, Esther Holguin and Ray Holguin Jr. and his wife Sandra, all of Woodland.
A Mexican dinner was enjoyed by 150 people.
It was catered by Maria Tafoya, whose mother catered the couple's wedding.
The Mariachi Los Gallos provided traditional Mexican music and guests danced to the music provided by DJ Blitz.
The tables were set with china with gold accents, coral rose centerpieces and candlelight.
A table displayed pictures of their wedding and a highlight of the reception was a presentation, created by their granddaughter Katrina, on their 50 years of marriage.
The couple also have eight grandchildren, Albert Miller; Marcos, Mario and Vanessa Vidales; Katrina, Steven and Sienna Holguin; and Crystal Godina.
Their great-grandchildren are Esmia Miller, Anthony and Xavier Vidales.
All the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are from Woodland.
Raymon met Erma Oliveros at a family gathering in the summer of 1951 while she was visiting from Sacramento.
They went steady from 1952 until their marriage in 1956.
They were married at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Aug. 5, 1956.
A reception was held at Alfonzo and Francis Holguin's home with a dance at the American Legion Hall.
Erma worked as a certified nursing assistant for 25 years at Alderson Convalescent Hospital.
Raymon was a diesel mechanic and air conditioner technician for Heidrick Farms for 25 years before retiring from the Water District in 1996.
