Amanda (Mandy) Dawn Franklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Chester Franklin of Maryville, was united in marriage with Charles (Chas) Herbert Welch Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herbert Welch of Salisbury, N.C., July 31 at The Church of the Ascension.
Father Alex Baron officiated.
Nuptial music was provided by Jim Garvey, organist; Bonnie Wallis, soloist; and Jonathan Swygert, trumpet.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a custom wedding gown from Atlanta designer Anne Barge. The pearl silk satin gown began with a contoured strapless neckline and had a fitted bodice with a dropped waist. The bodice was hand-embroidered with a Renaissance tapestry that incorporated metallic thread, cut glass beads and clear sequins. The A-line skirt flowed into a chapel-length train complete with silk satin covered buttons. The inverted pleat in the back of the skirt was adorned with the same embroidery that was on the bodice. The look was completed with a waist-length cage veil with scattered crystals. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of pearl-embellished stephanotis wrapped in ivory satin ribbon.
Kimberly Jan Rucker and Elaine Michelle Kelley, both of Nashville, were maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Bethany Carroll Hipple of Maryville, Megan Suzanne Curran of Chattanooga, Jacqueline Renae Mauer of Knoxville, Steffanie Mashburn Speck of Maryville, Ali Shea Davis of Nashville, Kamber Ann Ransom of Nashville, Stephanie Lynn Heath of Charlotte and Kelly Helton Moss of Knoxville. They wore blush-colored, satin-faced organza dresses with flamingo pink organza trim from New York designer Thread. The dresses were strapless and tea-length with a sash at the waists and trim the bust and bottom hem. They carried hand-tied bouquets of lush, open roses in varying shades of pink finished with satin ribbon.
Brooke Nicole Parker was flower girl. Yves Jansen Tucker and Alan Hayes Wiser were ring bearers. Joy Michelle Folland and Blakely Lauren Bodeman kept the bride's book.
Charles Herbert Welch of Salisbury was best man. Groomsmen were Rusty Lee Bodenhimer of High Point, N.C., Theodore Vaughn Garret Griffin of New York, John Howard Leake of York, S.C., Brittian King Cherry of Charleston, S.C., David Wayne White of High Point, N.C., Sam Christopher Franklin of Maryville, Stephen Hayes Wiser of Beaufort, S.C., and Britt Anthony Brantley of Valdosta, Ga. Ushers were Jeffrey Thomas Tucker of Johnson City, Jerol Adrian Graves of New York and Jonathan Patrick Cavanaugh of Winston Salem, N.C.
A reception given by the parents of the bride was held at Gettysvue Country Club.
After a wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii, the couple are living in Charleston, S.C.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Maryville College. She is a pharmaceutical representative for Barr Laboratories.
The bridegroom is a 2001 graduate of High Point University. He is a sales consultant for Synthes, USA.
