Fagg - Shields

Sara Elizabeth Shields and John Anderson Fagg, junior were married on November 3, 2007 at five o'clock at Saint Paul's Church in Beaufort. The Reverend John Shields of Winston-Salem and The Reverend Paul Shields of Sanford, uncle of the bride, officiated. A reception, hosted by the parents of the bride, followed at The Duncan House. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Ragsdale Shields of Scotland Neck, and granddaughter of Mrs. Rom Bragg Parker of Enfield and the late Mr. Parker, and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Percival Shields of Scotland Neck. Elizabeth is a graduate of Wake Forest University and earned a Master of Science degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a speech-language pathologist at Child and Family Development in Charlotte. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Anderson Fagg of Winston-Salem. He is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Sharp Watkins of Camden, South Carolina, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cazzie Odell Fagg of Winston-Salem. John is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University. He is an attorney at Moore and Van Allen in Charlotte. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. She wore an antique satin gown also worn by her maternal grandmother in 1945 and by her mother in 1976 and a cathedral length mantilla of Belgian lace belonging to her aunt. The matron of honor was the bride's childhood friend, Meredith Copeland Courts of Atlanta, Georgia. Bridesmaids were Caroline Fagg Tucker of Camden, South Carolina, sister of the groom; Ann Tamlyn Shields of Greenville, cousin of the bride; Susan Miles Clapp of Augusta, Georgia; Katherine Shore Duke of Raleigh; Cameron Smith Miller of Charlottesville, Virginia; Margaret Manning Morrison of Charlotte; and Mary Craig Wilson Tennille of San Francisco, California. The best man was the groom's father. Groomsmen were Clay Parker Shields of Raleigh, brother of the bride; Hamer Gibson Tucker of Camden, South Carolina, brother-in-law of the groom; Robert Stanley Jewell, junior, Elton Bryson Stephens III, and Claiborne Johnson Williams of Washington, D.C.; Edward Scott Kenerly and John Scott Trotter of New York, New York; Angus Morris McDonald III of Raleigh; and Edward Brantley White of Greensboro. Greeters were Suzanne Elizabeth Fleming and Laura Rose Neelon of Winston-Salem, and Jamie Phillips Silver of Raleigh. Ceremony music was provided by bagpiper Ian Clarkson, organist John Bostrom, and violinist and bridesmaid Katherine Duke. Wedding weekend festivities included a bridesmaids' luncheon at the home of Mrs. Clyde Wesley Copeland, junior in Harker's Island, a rehearsal dinner followed by cocktails and live jazz hosted by the parents of the groom, and a wedding day brunch hosted by aunts, uncles, cousins, and the grandmother of the bride at Chef's 105 on the Morehead City waterfront. Following a honeymoon to Jumby Bay in Antigua, West Indies, the couple will reside in Charlotte.
