Mr. and Mrs. S. Swain Pierce of Raleigh celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary September 27, 2007 with dinner and a reception at the home of their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Pierce, Stephen and Josiah, of Cary.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce were married September 27, 1947 at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and have been residents of the city all their married life.
Mrs. Pierce is the former Roberta Casper of Caraleigh.

[Obituary of S. Swain Pierce: "S. Swain Pierce - January 5, 1923 - November 26, 2016 - S. Swain Pierce died peacefully Saturday, November 26, 2016, at PruittHealth-Raleigh. Born January 5, 1923, in Franklin County, NC, Swain was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Florence Poole Pierce and the youngest of eight siblings, all deceased. A graduate of Bunn High School and Mitchell Junior College (Statesville), Swain, a talented pianist, studied music which he enjoyed his entire life. He later embarked on a career in accounting and worked in Raleigh retiring from FCX Corporation in 1985 with 38 years of service. A resident of the Hi-Mount Neighborhood in North Raleigh, Swain will be remembered fondly by neighbors and those he met on his daily walks. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. Swain is survived by his wife of 69 years, Roberta Casper Pierce, his son, Mark Swain Pierce and wife, Kathy, of Cary, and grandsons, Mark Stephen Pierce and wife, Megan, of Berryville, Virginia, and Samuel Josiah Pierce of Lynchburg, Virginia.
