[Obituary of Judy Callahan: "Judith Apple Callahan, of Raleigh, passed away on June 10th in the loving presence of family and the caring staff of Transitions LifeCare. Judy was born on January 31,1933 in Newton, Massachusetts to George and Frances Apple. She spent her childhood years growing up in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine. On August 28, 1954, Judy married the love of her life, James H. Callahan in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. Over the next five years they welcomed three children to the family and relocated to North Carolina. Having lived in Raleigh for nearly 60 years, Judy and Jim were members of Christ Episcopal Church. Judy loved being a stay-at-home Mom and spending time with her children. Summers were filled with swim meets, outdoor family activities and an annual trip north to visit friends and family in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Judy’s great passion was golf and she thoroughly loved every minute that she was out in the sunshine, on the golf course with her friends and husband Jim. Together they played thousands of rounds of golf for more than 60 years and formed many lasting relationships and great memories. Nothing made her feel more alive and happy than spending time on the golf course with those she loved. Preceding Judy in death were her parents and sister Lorelei. She is survived by her husband Jim, son Richard Callahan and his wife, Cindy, daughter Jill Rekuc and her husband Tom Holder Jr. of Raleigh and daughter Diane Barlow and her husband Alan of Concord, NH. There are seven grandchildren: Ryan, Blair & Grace Callahan of Raleigh, Dr. Caroline Rekuc Reynolds of Burlington, VT, Brian Rekuc of Dallas Texas and Stephanie and Courtney Barlow of Wakefield, Massachusetts. Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, in Raleigh on June 14 at 11:00 am. A private burial service will be held beforehand, at Oakwood Cemetery.
