Underhill - Webster
Aira Joscelyn Webster and James Graham Underhill of Greenville were united in marriage on April 17, 2004, at five o'clock in the evening at Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern. The Reverend Canon Peter Brownell Stube officiated at the ceremony. A reception was held following the ceremony at the New Bern Golf and Country Club.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Vaneda Steve Webster of Kinston, and Mr. Wilbur Elmer Webster III of Phoenix, Arizona. She is the granddaughter of the late Ms. Sarah Jane Steve, and Mr. Wilbur Elmer Webster of Annapolis, Maryland, and the late Mrs. Nancy Gallishaw Webster.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Thurlow Reed Underhill Sr. of New Bern. The groom is the grandson of the late Commissioner of Agriculture and Mrs. James Allen Graham of Raleigh, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gary Madison Underhill Sr. of Raleigh.
The bride wore a lace mantilla belonging to the groom's great-grandmother, which had also been worn by the groom's mother in her wedding. She carried a bouquet of Virginia and Anna roses interspersed with greenery and tied with sheer bridal ribbon.
Alexis Margaux Webster of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, sister of the bride, served as the maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Laura Helen Underhill of Laurinburg, sister of the groom; Penny Bakatsias, Auburn Vashti Barkley, and Kathleen Crawford Eller of Raleigh; Melanie Dover Goodson of Asheville; Laura Hunter Meacham of Charlotte; and Elizabeth Scott Kornegay, Emilie Leigh Rautus, Mary Sue Sutton, and Jennifer Snavely West of Raleigh. Abigail Elizabeth Furman of Durham was the flower girl.
The groom's father, Dr. Thurlow Reed Underhill Sr. of New Bern, served as the best man. The groomsmen were Ythan Wye Webster of Raleigh, brother of the bride; Thurlow Reed Underhill Jr. of Raleigh, brother of the groom; Charles Kersey Barrus of Windermere, Florida; Benjamin McIver Bost of Hickory; Bradford Duffy Carpenter, Lee Edward Knott, and John Robert Mattocks of New Bern; Robert Jackson Powell IV of Greenville; George Cole Venters Jr. of Raleigh; and Bryan Myerson Ward of Atlanta, Georgia.
The guest book was attended by Courtney Hardison Cloninger of Concord, and the program attendants were Lauren Alicia Brooks and Grace Ann Brooks of Nashville, Tennessee, cousins of the groom. Scripture readers were Nicole Loomis Blount and Elizabeth Hill Harrell of Greenville. The crucifer was Britt Ricks. The wedding directors were Mary Parrish and Pat McCotter. Flowers were provided by Rider Florist of Kinston.
Organist Steve Anderson, trumpeter Daniel Jones, violinist Gentry Lasater, and soprano Pat Rowlett provided music. The sound technician was Lea Ricks.
The bride graduated cum laude from North Carolina State University and will begin medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in August.
The groom graduated from Woodberry Forest School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is employed by Eli Lilly and Company.
After a wedding trip to France, the couple is residing in Greenville.
