Evans anniversary

Marshall Clinton Evans Sr. of Henderson and Frances Pender Evans of Columbia, South Carolina, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2003. They have resided in Raleigh since 1976. Their five children: Marshall C. Evans Jr. and his wife; Deborah P. Evans; David W. Evans; Kenneth H. Evans; Mary E. Swan; and Craig A. Evans, will honor their parents with a reception on Saturday evening, June 7, 2003, at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. Marshall and Frances have five grandchildren, Kristin, Amber, Marshall III, Dallas IV, and David, and two great grandchildren, Alexander and Elliott. Marshall and Frances met in 1953 when he was in the military service at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Marshall worked in the office with Frances' sister, who was engaged to be married to Marshall's friend. Marshall was asked to be best man at their wedding and Frances was asked to be maid of honor. Marshall and Frances first met at the wedding rehearsal of the engaged couple. With encouragement from Frances' Aunt Mary, they fell in love and were married later that year. Marshall and Frances are members of First Baptist Church in Raleigh. They are members of the John Hiott Fellowship Class in the Sunday School. Since the birth of their first child in October 1954, Frances has been a homemaker. Marshall's first career was in the United States Public Health Service in Washington, D. C. and in Research Triangle Park. He retired early in 1983 to participate in the development of Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh where he was Executive Director from its opening in 1984 until 1992. Marshall and Frances now spend much of their time enjoying their family and friends and traveling.
