Afterwards, a reception was held at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Blount Mathews of New Bern.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Alexander Oliver of Burlington.
The bride graduated from Meredith College and East Tennessee State University.
The groom graduated from North Carolina State University.
Both are Ph.D candidates at North Carolina State University.
After a honeymoon trip to Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, the couple will live in Garner.
