Laura Elaine Gilbert of Cary and James Edwin Upchurch of Chapel Hill were married November 2, 2002, at six-thirty in the evening at First United Methodist Church in Cary. The Reverend Woodrow W. Wells officiated. A reception followed at MacGregor Downs Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Neely Gilbert of Cary. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gray Upchurch of Greensboro. Sister of the bride, Virginia Neely Gilbert of Cary, served as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Vanessa Nicole Hansmann of Burr Ridge, Illinois; sister of the groom, Jennifer Upchurch Koehler of Hillsborough; Dorothea Mills Park of Cary; Jody Rogers Swing of Greenville; and Tracy Helen Tranguch of Greensboro. Wallace Gray Upchurch served as his son's best man. Groomsmen were Brenton Keith Baker of Chapel Hill; Justin Grey Carroll of Greensboro; John Canterbury Kirby of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law of the groom, Richard Douglas Koehler of Hillsborough; and Christopher Harriss Sharpe of Whitsett. Kara Jean Adams was the guest register attendant. Program attendants were Brandi Jinika Buff and Christopher Lee Knight. The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was presented at the North Carolina Terpsichorean Ball in 1995. The bride is a program manager in Executive Education with the Kenan Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The groom graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the practice manager with Interpath Communications, Inc. After a honeymoon trip to St. John, United States Virgin Islands, the couple will live in Chapel Hill.
