Hallock Marie Cooper and Preston Sanford Howard were married October 12, 2002, at half past five o'clock in the evening at the Oceanana Resort in Atlantic Beach. Dr. Jim Helton officiated. A reception was held after the wedding at the Oceanana Resort. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Braswell Cooper Jr. of Atlantic Beach. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Weddle of Morehead City, and Mrs. A.B. Cooper Sr. of Morehead City and the late Mr. A.B. Cooper Sr. Parents of the groom are Ms. Glenda Cardwell Howard of Raleigh and the late Dexter E. Howard, formerly of New Bern. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Delos Cardwell of Madison, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus G. Howard of Los Angeles. Jennifer Lynn Alvord of Los Angeles served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride's cousin, Laura Cooper Lynch of Arlington, Massachusetts; Letitia Ann Garner of Morehead City; and Charlotte Fleming Harris and Margaret Chase Harris of Raleigh. The bride's cousins, Katherine Adelaide Lynch and Eleanor Cooper Baile Lynch, and the groom's niece, Lindsay Catherine Howard, served as flower girls. The groom's brother, Brian Andrew Howard of Raleigh, served as best man. Groomsmen were the groom's brothers, Dexter Randall Howard of Atlanta and Brandon Scott Howard of Scottsdale, Arizona; the bride's brother, Alfred Braswell Cooper III of San Francisco; James Coolidge Davis of Wilmington; and Hoke Smith Roberson of Raleigh. Nephew of the groom, Zachary Ryan Howard, and cousins of the bride, Robert William Rodriguez and Cameron Cooper Willis, served as junior groomsmen. The bride's cousin, Joseph Cooper Willis Rodriguez, served as ring bearer. A rehearsal dinner and dance, given by friends and family of the groom, was held Friday, October 11, 2002, at the Coral Bay Club in Atlantic Beach. The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. She is majority owner and general manager of Amos Mosquito's Swampside Caf in Morehead City. The groom attended North Carolina State University. He operates Manufactured Home Outlet in Swansboro. After a honeymoon trip to Italy, the couple will live in Atlantic Beach.
