Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hicks of Great Bend will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 8.
Sharon and Marvin were married Jan. 8, 1955, in the chapel of the Great Bend Christian Church.
They have lived in Great Bend for 30 years.
They have three children: Paula Spofford of Sandwich, Mass., Doug Hicks of Hays and Curtis Hicks of Wichita.
They have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family plans to celebrate together at a later date.
The family would also appreciate a card shower for the couple.

[Obituary of Marvin Hicks: "Marvin W. Hicks, 1931 - 2006, Marvin W. Hicks, 74, of Great Bend, died Jan. 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 6, 1931, at Nowata, Okla., the son of James and Lilly Adamson Hicks. He married Sharon Eckert on Jan. 8, 1955, at Great Bend. He was an oilfield roustabout and pumper, retiring from BHP Inc. He had been a Great Bend resident since 1975, coming from Hays. Hicks was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge No. 1127 and American Legion Argonne Post 180, all of Great Bend, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, Hoisington. Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Doug Hicks and wife Vickie, Hays, Kan., and Curtis Hicks, Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Paula Spofford and husband Jim, Conway, NH; two brothers, Max Hicks and wife Betty, Hoisington, Kan., and Alva Hicks and wife Virginia, Swansboro, NC; two sisters, Pauline Wilson, Nowata, Okla., and Opal Heape and husband Harry, Sallisaw, Okla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Lyle Hicks, and three sisters, Maxine Hicks, Sarah Dodd and Edith Swalley. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. James A. Strassen officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with family to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
