Friends and relatives of Ralph and Mae Allen are invited to join the Allens at their home in Leaday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1st to help them celebrate 70 years of marriage.
Ralph and Mae were married March 29th, 1931 in Shep, Texas.
Mae's uncle, Elisha Self, a Methodist minister, performed the ceremony.
Ralph, a native of Coleman County, met Mae while he and his brother were managing three sections of leased land near Shep.
The couple first lived in Valera where Ralph's father owned a store.
They moved to Leaday in 1932 and have lived in that community since then.

[Obituary of Mae Allen: "LEADAY -- Mae Allen, age 93 of Leaday, Texas, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at her home in southern Coleman County. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Smith officiating, assisted by Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will be in the Leaday Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mae was born June 19, 1912 in Shep, Texas, in Taylor County. She was the youngest of twelve children born to David Smith Self and Julia Ann Hawkins Self. She met Ralph Allen in 1930 when he was in the area tending to a herd of sheep his family was pasturing in Nolan County. Ralph loved to tell about seeing Mae and her sister sitting on a bridge near her home, waving to passers-by. He said she was the prettiest girls he had ever seen. Mae married Ralph on March 29, 1931 in Shep. They were constant companions—from the early days in sheep shearing camps to managing their ranching interests in southern Coleman County. They were married 72 years before his death on January 19, 2003. And, he never changed his mind about MaMae. In the late 1980’s, Mae learned that the coming of Lake Ivie would destroy the historic Day Ranch Headquarters. So she and Ralph took on the task of moving the structure. They had it moved to their property, and it became their home in 1993. Mae is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Diane Allen of Mozelle; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and William Earl Jones of Voss; six grandchildren, Kevin Allen and wife, Ronda of Mozelle, James Allen of Mozelle, Danny Allen and wife, Kim of Santa Anna, Donny Allen and wife, Gloria of Bronte, Juliann Page of Coleman and Jeanene Pricer and husband Johnny of Fisk; 10 great-grandchildren, Keva, Kenna and Gus Allen; Jett Allen; Boone and Alyssa Allen; Matthew and Lauren Allen; Vanessa Page and Allen Pricer. Also surviving Mae is a sister, Nell Walker of Bronte, a special niece, Cleo Corcoran of Greenville and a dear friend, Yetta Masters. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Warren Allen in 1968 and her husband Ralph in 2003. Memorials may be made to the Leaday Cemetery Fund, c/o Shirley Rankin, 615 West 3rd, Coleman, Texas 76834 or the Leaday Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Kevin Allen, James Allen, Danny Allen, Donny Allen, Matthew Allen and Johnny Pricer.
