The Swopes
Ray F. and Elaine E. Swope celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 21, 1997, at North American Rod and Gun Club.
The celebration was hosted by their seven children and spouses, Terry and Diane Swope of Fairplay, Jennifer and Donnie Mason of Hagerstown, Jeff and Theresa Swope of Hagerstown, Paula and Mike Webb of Boonsboro, Brenda and Steve Gigeous of Williamsport, Helen and Brian Wiles of Hagerstown and Vicki Swope and family of Clear Spring.
The Swopes were married June 28, 1947, at the home of the late Rev. William A. Herpich.
Mrs. Swope is the former Elaine E. Giffin, daughter of the late Lewis and Maude Benner Giffin.
She was employed by Laigon Manufacturers and E.J. Fennel.
She works part time at Rehoboth Day Care Center.
Mr. Swope is the son of the late Franklin and Lottie Breeden Swope.
He was employed by Central Chemical and Pangborn Corp. and farmed in Pinesburg.
He is retired from Swopes Masonry.
They have 13 grandchildren.
