The Jones
Retired Command Sgt. Maj. and Mrs. Alvin W. Jones of Smithsburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 21, 1997, by renewing their wedding vows at Germantown Church of God in Cascade.
A family dinner at Mountain Gate Restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa., was followed by a reception at the home of their son, Alvin Jones II.
The celebration was hosted by their sons and their wives, Alvin and Liz Ann Jones of Hagerstown and David and Karen Jones of Cicero, N.Y., and their four grandchildren.
The Jones were married June 21, 1947, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Linz, Austria, by U.S. Army Chaplain Hugh Glen.
Mrs. Jones is the former Karolina Helena Lagler.
She was born in Sopron, Hungary, and became a citizen of the United States Dec. 9, 1952.
Mr. Jones was born in Larksville, Pa.
He retired from the U.S. Army in 1974 with 31 years and 8 months of active service.
He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, France, Germany, Austria and U.S. stations, including Fort Ritchie and Fort Meade.
He taught school in the Waynesboro Area School District for five years.
