The Powells
Mr. and Mrs. Albert D. Powell Jr. of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996, at First Baptist Church in Hagerstown.
The event was hosted by their daughters, Patricia Hoffman and Linda Busbee, and their sons, David and Roger Powell. More than 145 friends and family from the Tri-State area attended.
The couple was married Sept. 24, 1946, in Hagerstown.
Mrs. Powell, the former Mary Cosgrove, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Martin Cosgrove.
She retired from Hagerstown Board of Education after 20 years of service.
Mr. Powell retired from Western Maryland Railroad after 44 years of service.
The Powells have 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

(Obituary of Albert Powell: "Albert David Powell, Jr., 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center. Born August 16, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Albert David Powell Sr. and Minnie Emma (Knight) Biser Powell. Albert was a pharmacist's mate attached to a Seabee unit in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Albert retired in 1986 after 44 years of service as a machinist for the Western Maryland Railroad. He was president of the Hagerstown Local 259 of International Association of Machinist Aerospace Workers. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hagerstown, the Maryland Rebekah Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Frederick, VFW Post 1936 in Hagerstown, and the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Anna Louise (Cosgrove) Powell, who died in 2008; a daughter, Patricia Marie Hoffman; a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Anna Nicole Dockery; and all of his siblings. Albert was the last survivor of his immediate family. He is survived by a two sons, David Wayne Powell of Bunker Hill, WV, Roger Keith Powell, at home; a daughter, Linda Joyce Busbee of Eatonton, GA; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Thom Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by Morris Frock Post No. 42. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.")
(Obituary of Mary Powell: "Mary Anna Louise Powell, 81, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Washington County Hospital. Born Jan. 2, 1927, in Montgomery Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Martin and Minerva Irene Householder Cosgrove. She attended Hagerstown High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hagerstown, where she was a member of the friendship class. She retired as a cafeteria worker from the Board of Education in Hagerstown. She was member of Clear Spring Odd Fellows Lodge, Samaritan Rebekah Lodge 51, Clear Spring High School Alumni Association, United Commercial Travelers, and was the past secretary and treasurer of the W.D. Byron Bowling League. Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert D. Powell; one daughter, Linda J. Busbee of Eatonton, Ga.; two sons, David W. Powell of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Roger K. Powell of Hagerstown; three sisters, Dorothy M. Fishack of Smithsburg, Pearl Heffner of Hagerstown and Bessie V. Smith of Cascade; two brothers, Harry L. Cosgrove of Hagerstown and James Cosgrove of Colonial Heights, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia M. Hoffman; five brothers, John Cosgrove, Earl Cosgrove, Harold Cosgrove, Paul Cosgrove and C. Ellwood Cosgrove; one sister, Pauline Pryor; and one great-granddaughter. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Pastor Thom Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
