The Kershners
Martha and Edwin Kershner of Hagerstown were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at Four Points Hotel in Hagerstown.
The event was attended by approximate 110 guests.
The Kershners were married Dec. 14, 1946, by the Rev. Fred Henck.
Mrs. Kershner is the former Martha Pickett, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake Pickett, formerly of Westminster, Md.
She is retired from E.J. Fennel Inc. in Hagerstown.
Mr. Kershner is the son of the late Fred and Blanche Kershner, formerly of Hagerstown.
He is retired from Chessie System.

(Obituary of Edwin Kershner: "Edwin Marcel "Skinny" Kershner, 80, of 901 Noland Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Washington County Hospital. Born June 20, 1923, in Tilghmanton, Md., he was the son of the late Fred E. Kershner and the late Blanche S. Clark Kershner Renner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha E. Kershner, who died Jan. 12, 2003. He was employed with the Western Maryland Railroad, Chessie and CSX Corporation for 42 years as a welder and machinist. He retired in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Talita-58 Task Force. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the following organizations: Western Maryland Sportsmen Club; Clear Spring American Legion Post 222; Elks Lodge 378; Conococheague Tribe 84 of the Redmen of Williamsport; Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.; AMVETS Post 10; Goodwill Athletic Association; North American Rod and Gun Club; Sideling Hill Rod and Gun Club; Loyal Order of the Moose Funkstown Lodge 2435; Western Maryland Oldtimers Club; Western Enterprise Fire Company No. 4; South Mountain Rod and Gun Club; charter member and manager in the West End Little League for 20 years. He is survived by two brothers, John R. Kershner of Hagerstown and Fred J. Kershner of Myersville, Md.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Kershner; and two brothers, Leonard Kershner and Howard Kershner. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., with the Revs. Robert S. Burton and William Kesecker officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.")

Born April 20, 1923, in Patapsco, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jacob I. and Gertrude Masenheimer Pickett. She attended Carroll County (Md.) High School. She was employed by L'Aiglon Apparel and E.J. Fennel, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Temple Builders Sunday School class and taught the Primary Department class. She was a member of Clear Spring American Legion Post 222 Auxiliary, where she served as president; West End Little League Auxiliary, where she served as president; Red Feather Council 59 of the Red Men; AARP; and Western Maryland Center Auxiliary for 14 years. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edwin M. Kershner; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, George J. Pickett, Charles Pickett and John A. Pickett; and two half-sisters, Rachel Shaffer and Ruth Shaffer. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Revs. Robert S. Barton and William Kesecker will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.")
