The Kilmers
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kilmer of Hedgesville, W.Va., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at a reception in the United Methodist Church social hall in Hedgesville.
The event was hosted by their three sons and their spouses, Douglas and Janis Kilmer of Charleston, W.Va.; David and Jill Kilmer, and Nevin and Cecelia Kilmer of Hedgesville.
About 90 friends and family attended the catered affair.
The couple was married Feb. 8, 1947 in the original Hedgesville Methodist Church by the late Rev. Roscoe Hall.
Mrs. Kilmer is the former Maxine Edwards, daughter of the late Leon and Retha Edwards.
She is a retired teacher and a homemaker.
Mr. Kilmer is the son of the late George W. and Odette Kilmer.
He retired from the Berkeley County schools after 44 years of service.

(Obituary of Robert Kilmer: "Robert D. Kilmer, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Hedgesville, September 22, 2009 after an extended illness. Born January 24, 1925 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late George W. Kilmer, Sr., and Odette Beall Kilmer. He graduated from Hedgesville High School in 1942 and in 1944 graduated from Potomac State College. He obtained his Masters degree from WVU in 1949. Mr. Kilmer was a teacher from 1944 – 1950 at Hedgesville High School. He also coached Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. From 1950-1955 he was a teacher and principal at Marlowe School, 1955 principal at John Street School, 1956 – 1984 principal at Hedgesville High School and 1984 – 1988 he moved to the Berkeley County School Board Office. He retired from the Berkeley County School Systems after 44 years. He was a member of the Hedgesville High School Alumni Association and received the first Outstanding Alumni Award of Hedgesville High School. He was a lifelong member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school, was a member of the Administrative Board and Lay Leader for many years. He taught the church’s Together Class for over 40 years. He was one of the founders of Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Company and also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the fire company. He was a Charter Member of Hedgesville Lions Club and in 2008 received his 60 year pin. He was an adult 4-H project leader and assisted as a Tri-County 4-H camp counselor. He received the Distinguished Service Award Hedgesville Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. He is survived by three sons and their spouses, Douglas A. Kilmer and Janis I. Reynolds, of Charleston, David E. and Jill Kilmer and Nevin L. and Cele Kilmer, all of Hedgesville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Glen W. Kilmer and wife, Bethany, Mindy R. Wilmer and husband, Calvin, Aaron Kilmer and Ashley Kilmer, all of Hedgesville, and Matt Reynolds, of Charleston. He was extremely proud of his four great-grandchildren, Austin, Javin and Davonte Wilmer and Kaiden Kilmer. Also survived by a sister, Ellen Chiarelli, of Erie, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Edwards Kilmer, whom were together for 56 years; and three brothers, George W. Jr., Richard and Boyd Kilmer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at Johnsontown Bible Church with Rev. L. Jack Rudy officiating. Interment will be held at Hedgesville Cemetery.
