The DeHaans
Frank and Dolly (Stubbs) DeHaan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at Mount Aetna Camp Lodge in Hagerstown.
The event was attended by approximately 175 relatives and friends.
Two members of the original wedding party attended.
The DeHaans have three children, Larry DeHaan of Hagerstown, Charla Lagasse of Brandon, Fla., and Gary DeHaan of Pasco, Wash. They also have four grandchildren.
They were married Feb. 18, 1947, in Takoma Park, Md.
In 1984 they moved to Hagerstown and purchased the Dutchie Pretzel Factory in Smithsburg.
Today they employ more than 100 people and sell their products in more than 25 states.
Mr. DeHaan was born in 1926 in Ridgewood, N.J.
Mrs. DeHaan also was born in 1926 in Illinois.
The couple attended Shenandoah Valley Academy in New Market, Va., and graduated together in 1944.
After high school, Mrs. DeHaan was employed at a dairy farm owned by Dr. Hadley in Gaithersburg, Md.
Mr. DeHaan graduated in 1950 from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., with a degree in agriculture and also became employed by Dr. Hadley.
After seven years, he bought the business. Over the years Hadley Farms has changed its operation and its location. It now operates a bakery in Smithsburg.
Highland View Academy, a co-educational high school in Hagerstown, was established because of the contributions of the DeHaans.

(Obituary of Frank DeHaan: "Frank DeHaan, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at his home. Born Saturday, September 11, 1926 in Ridgewood, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles and Bella (VanLenten) DeHaan. He was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Academy High School in New Market, VA, and Union College in Lincoln, NE. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. Frank was a member of Willow Brook Seventh-day Adventist Church of Boonsboro, MD and was an active member of numerous church and school boards and church heritage organizations. Frank started his career at Hadley Farms Dairy in Gaithersburg, MD, in 1950. He expanded the business in 1974 by purchasing Dutchie Pretzel in Smithsburg, MD. He was the founder of what today is Hadley Farms Bakery in Smithsburg, MD. Frank was loved by many people and he had a huge impact on many lives due to his exceptionally giving heart. He will be missed dearly. Frank is survived by his wife, Dolly Stubbs DeHaan, children, Larry DeHaan and wife Cathi, Charla Lagasse and husband Rickey and Gary DeHaan and wife Melissa, grandchildren, Colette DeHaan Peterson and husband Mazer, Rodney DeHaan and wife Keilani, Courtney French and husband Chris and Christopher DeHaan and wife Heather, great-grandchildren, Genessee, Stella, Samuel, Korra, Henry, Hadley and Jameson. He was preceded in death by daughter, Janel Kay DeHaan, brother, Charles DeHaan and sister, Margaret Langenberg. Services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 6:00pm at Willow Brook Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Volodymyr Grinchenko officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-6pm, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD on Friday, June 15, 2018.
