The Wissingers

Doris and Donald Wissinger of Hagerstown celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Jan. 24, 1997, with a dinner at Williamsport Red Men Lodge.

The event was hosted by their daughter, Donna Stroupe, and her friend, Bob Densmore, both of Falling Waters, W.Va.; and their son, David Wissinger of Hagerstown; and granddaughter, Jackie Stroupe, also of Hagerstown.

The Wissingers were married Jan. 26, 1946, in Hagerstown by the Rev. Berry Plummer in the parsonage of St. Paul's United Brethren Church.

Mrs. Wissinger, the former Doris Koontz, is a homemaker.

Mr. Wissinger retired in 1986 from the city of Hagerstown after 20 years of service.

(Obituary of Doris Wissinger: "Doris Mae Ellen Wissinger, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. Born Dec. 29, 1925, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (Malone) Koontz. Mrs. Wissinger was a homemaker and a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Stroup, and companion, Bob Densmore, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Jackie (Stroup) Barnes of Hagerstown; a brother-in-law, Wilbur Wissinger of Big Pool, Md.; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Wissinger; and her son, David L. Wissinger. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Friends will be received at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.")
