Dorothy and Thomas Kunkleman Sr. of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at a party at American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown.
The event was hosted by their seven daughters, Debbie Jackman of Austin, Texas; Sue Brant, Kathy Pickens, Patti Leazier, Jodi McIntire and Karen Grosh, all of Clear Spring; and Stacey Walters of Maugansville; and their son, Thomas Kunkleman Jr. of Downsville.
They also have 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Kunklemans were married Jan. 4, 1947, in Hagerstown.
Mrs. Kunkleman is a homemaker, and Mr. Kunkleman is retired from Western Maryland/CSX Railroad.

(Obituary of Thomas Kunkleman: "Thomas Bruce “Tom” Kunkleman Sr., 85, of 17211 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md., died on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at his home. Born on Dec. 25, 1924, in Shady Grove, he was a son of the late John and Mae Ott Kunkleman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Elizabeth Kunkleman, who died April 14, 2004. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and retired in 1986 from the Western Maryland Railway after 36 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hagerstown, Md., and a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. Thomas is survived by seven daughters, Deborah M. Jackman of Austin, Texas, Sue E. (and husband, Jerry) Brant, Kathy J. (and husband, Randy) Pickens, Karen D. (and husband, Tommy) Grosh, Patti A. (and husband, Doug) Leazier and Jodi (and husband, Troy) McIntire, all of Clear Spring, Md., and Stacey L. (and husband, Mike) Walters of Maugansville; a son, Thomas B. Jr. (and wife, Karen) Kunkleman of Williamsport, Md.; a brother, John Kunkleman; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry W. Kunkleman; three sisters, Clara Hecker, Kate Hammer and Allie Wolfe; and four brothers, Ben Kunkleman, Charles Kunkleman, Paul Kunkleman and Jerry Kunkleman. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. Military graveside services will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md.
