The Joneses
Edgar E. and Bertha Jones of Boonsboro celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, at a dinner at Elks Club in Hagerstown.
The event was hosted by their daughters, Dorothy Winter of Olney, Md., and Nancy Hovis of Smithsburg, and their son, Randy Jones of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
The couple also have another son, Dr. Robert Jones of Anchorage, Alaska, who was unable to attend.
Approximately 65 family members, relatives and friends attended.
The Joneses were married Dec. 24, 1936, in Hagerstown by the Rev. A.M. Dixon, pastor of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
Mrs. Jones is the former Bertha Miller of Hagerstown, the daughter of the late Lucy B. and Edward E. Miller. She is a homemaker.
Mr. Jones is the son of the late Mary E. and Edgar H. Jones of Hagerstown.
He is retired from Control Data in Rockville, Md.
The Joneses have nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Born January 1, 1920 in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edward Ellsworth and Lucy Belle Straley Miller. She was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Edgar Earl Jones; two daughters, Dorothy J. Winter of Frederick, Maryland, and Nancy E. Hovis of Smithsburg, Maryland; two sons, Robert E. Jones of Bristol, Virginia, and Randy C. Jones of Boonsboro, Maryland; one sister, Mabel V. Hoover of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Cora Moats, Laura Rowe, Sara Clark, and Daetta Jackson; and six brothers, Stanley Miller, Paul Miller, William Miller, Samuel Miller, John Miller, and Maxwell Miller. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday at the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 South Mulberry Street, Hagerstown. Rev. Edward L. Poling will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard on Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m. (Obituary of Edgar Jones: "EDGAR EARL JONES, 90, of 1175 Professional Court, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the Broadmore Assisted Living at Hagerstown. Born November 14, 1915 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edgar Harold and Mary Elizabeth Landers Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Bertha Jones. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was employed with Control Data in Hagerstown, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, and served as an usher. He was a member of the Gad-A-Bouts Square Dancing Club, and was a member of the Control Data Golf League. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy E. Hovis of Smithsburg, Maryland, and Dorothy J. Winter of Frederick, Maryland; two sons, Robert E. Jones of Bristol, Virginia, and Randy C. Jones of Boonsboro, Maryland; one brother, Harold Jones of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
