John and Betsy Reynolds of Williamsport celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996, at a surprise evening banquet at Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Hagerstown.
The event was hosted by their three daughters, Toni Sanders of Williamsport, Peggy Ott of Smithsburg, and Jonna Kelly of California.
Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds are originally from Cumberland, Md., and were married Aug. 17, 1956, in Cumberland.
Mrs. Reynolds is a homemaker.
Mr. Reynolds is retired from Western Maryland/CSX Railroad.
The Reynolds have seven grandchildren.

(Obituary of John Reynolds: "John Demetrius Reynolds, 91, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home. Born June 5, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John G. and Eva A. Yarnell Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Reynolds in 2014. He was a 1943 graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from CSX Railroad in 1985. He was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church where he served with the Methodist Men, a member of the Western Maryland Old Timers, volunteered at Washington County Hospital for over 20 years and bowled in the Senior Citizens Bowling League and the Railroad Bowling League. John is survived by three daughters, Toni L. Reynolds of Williamsport, Peggy S. Reynolds of Mechanicsville, Va., and Jonna L. Vinci and her husband, Brian of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Cristina, Carie, Hannah, John Michael, Justin and Jack; four great-grandchildren, Colton, Tucker, Jaxton and Cole; a brother, George Reynolds and his wife, Mary of Cumberland, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Rae Kelly, two sisters and one brother. The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, on Monday March 13, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Monday, March 13, 2017, at 9 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday March 14, 2017. at 3 p.m. with the Rev. (Obituary of Elizabeth Reynolds: "Elizabeth “Betsy” Reynolds, 88, of Williamsport, passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at her home. Born, March 30, 1926, in Barton, to the late Harmon D. and Christine Stevenson Gannon. She was a graduate of Barton High School Barton. During World War II, she was employed at the Celanese Plant as a textile worker in Cumberland. After the War, she worked at various dress shops in the Cumberland area. She was previously a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church Cumberland, where she taught Sunday school. She currently is a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church Williams-port, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the Methodist Men’s Dinners at the church. Betsy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She made finger puppets for the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was a Girl Scout Leader in the Williamsport area. Survivors include husband, John D. Reynolds, married for 58 years, of Williamsport; daughters, Toni I. Sanders, of Williamsport, Peggy S. Ott, of Mechanicsburg, Va., and Jonna L. Vinci, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Cristina, Carie, Hannah, John Michael, Justin and Jack; great-grandsons, Colton and Tucker; and nieces and nephews.
