The Hopkinses
In honor of their 60th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hopkins Jr., formerly of Hagerstown, were honored at a celebration Sunday, June 2, 1996.
Seventy-seven friends and family members attended the affair at Old South Mountain Inn in Boonsboro.
It was hosted by their two children and their spouses, Vicki and William A. Hopkins III of Newville, Pa., and Dorothy and David Forbes Jones of Hagerstown.
Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins were married in Frederick, Md., by the Rev. Ralph E. Hartman of Zion Reformed Church, May 15, 1936.
The couple has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hopkins is the son of the late William A. and Susan Baker Hopkins of Hagerstown and is retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa.
Mrs. Hopkins is the daughter of the late Raymond B. and Jane Eaton Hostetter of Hagerstown.
She worked at Rosens' Department Store and is a homemaker.
The couple resides in Pennsylvania in summer and in Florida in winter.

Hopkins: "WILLIAM ALFRED HOPKINS, JR., 90, of Newville, PA, formally of Hagerstown, MD, died Friday, March 9, 2007, at Green Ridge Village Skilled Nursing Facility in Newville, PA. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Hostetter Hopkins also living at the Green Ridge Village Facility. Born December 29, 1916 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late William A. Hopkins, Sr. and Susan Baker Hopkins. He attended the HHS Class of 1934 and graduated Augusta Military Academy (AMA). Working in the Tabulating, Production Planning, and IBM field for Glenn L. Martin Co. in Baltimore, MD. He returned to Hagerstown to work for Fairchild Aircraft in the same field. Following the same path, he later he worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. He later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army and was stationed on Saipan in the Mariana Islands in the Pacific. He was of Protestant faith. In addition to his wife , he is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Hopkins Jones and husband, David Forbes Jones of Hagerstown; one son, William A. Hopkins, III and wife Vicki (Stake), Newville, PA; five grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey D. Jones, wife, Patti (Borg) of Hagerstown, Kurt Forbes Jones, wife Christine (Coloe) of Urbana, MD, Lisa Jones Thurston, husband, Barry M. California, MD, Amy E. (Obituary of Ruth Hopkins: "RUTH ELIZABETH HOSTETTER HOPKINS, 90, of Newville, PA, formally of Hagerstown, MD, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Green Ridge Village Skilled Nursing Facility in Newville, PA. Born May 18, 1917 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Raymond B. and Jane Eaton Hostetter. Ruth was preceded in death this year by her husband, of seventy years, William Alfred Hopkins, Jr. on March 9, 2007. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in the Class of 1934. She worked for Rosen's Department Store in downtown Hagerstown and Rosen's West End store in the early 1960's. In late 1962, she went to work at Newtown D. Baker Veterans' Hospital in Martinsburg, WV in the Canteen and Jewelry shop. She finished off her working careen with the Newberry Area Credit Office in Hagerstown, MD in 1970 and moved to Newville, PA. She was of Protestant faith. Ruth is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Hopkins Jones and husband, David Forbes Jones of Hagerstown, MD; one son, William A.
