The Drapers
James Thomas "Jr." Draper Jr. and Irene Virginia Draper were honored Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996, at a party marking their 50th wedding anniversary.
Approximately 100 family members, relatives and friends gathered in the multi-purpose room of Fahrney-Keedy Home for the party.
The Drapers renewed their wedding vows during a service led by their son, David, an ordained pastor with the Churches of God.
Offering prayer was Ronnie Powell, an Independent Baptist pastor and husband of the Draper's late daughter, Patricia Ann Draper Powell.
Mr. Draper is the son of the late James Thomas Draper Sr. and the late Agnes Virginia Grove Draper.
Mrs. Draper is the daughter of the late David Pierce Seylar and the late Lula Sophia Myers Seylar.
The Drapers were married Aug. 26, 1946, in Hagerstown by Pastor Ard.
For much of his life Mr. Draper farmed with his father in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He later worked in masonry construction and as maintenance supervisor at Fahrney-Keedy.
He recently retired from this position, but continues to work there part-time.
Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Draper worked for five years in a sewing factory and for eight years in the cafeterias of Boonsboro schools.
Hosting the celebration were the Drapers' son David, his wife Linda, and son-in-law Ronnie Powell, and their five grandchildren.
The couple has one great-grandson.
