Doris and William "Bill" Kendall celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 17, 1996, at a reception at BPO Elks 378 in Hagerstown.
The event was hosted by their nephew, William Wiles, and his wife, Lynda, their niece, Judith O'Neal, and her husband, Fred.
Many friends and family members were present.
The couple was married Aug. 14, 1946, by the Rev. Francis R. Bell at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Bowman in Smithsburg.
Mr. Kendall served in World War II with the 409th Bombardment Squad of the 9th Air Force and is retired from Reisner Products Inc. in Hagerstown.
Mrs. Kendall, the former Doris Wiles, is retired from Doubleday Inc.
The Kendalls are from the Smithsburg area.
The couple resides in Hagerstown, spending winter months in Florida.
