Gruber
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eldon Gruber Sr. of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996.
The couple was married Aug. 3, 1946, in Cumberland, Md., by the Rev. Arthur L. Hunter, pastor of Grace Methodist Church.
An open house at Wacohu Grange Hall was hosted by their daughter, Sharon Carbaugh, her husband, Harold, their son, Ray Gruber Jr., and his wife, Susie.
The event was attended by many friends and relatives, including the couple's five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gruber is the former Dorothy J. Silvers, daughter of the late Richard M. and Catherine E. Byers Silvers. Mr. Gruber is the son of the late Emmert Gruber and Stella Spigler and the step-son of the late Joel "Bailey" Spigler.
Mr. Gruber served in the Western Pacific during World War II as a truck driver in the Army Signal Corps.
He worked at Fairchild for 5 years and the W.D. Byron Tannery. He was blinded in an accident in 1959.
Mrs. Gruber is a homemaker.

(Obituary of Ray Gruber: "Ray Elden Gruber Sr., 82, of 3 N. Artizan St., went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at the VA Medical Center, Baltimore. Ray was born in Charleton, Md., June 1, 1926, the son of the late Charles Emmert Gruber and Stella Elizabeth Blair Gruber Spigler. He had been employed with the W.D. Byron Tannery, Williamsport. He served in the Phillipines during World War II with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Blind Veterans Association. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple, Hagerstown. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jacqueline Silvers Gruber; a son, Ray E. Gruber Jr. of Hagerstown; half-brother, Lewis E. Spigler, Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Lynn, Brian and Eric Carbaugh of Clear Spring, and Jennifer Barnard and Aaron Gruber, both of Hagerstown; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon D. Carbaugh; a sister, Anna Mary Perez; and his stepfather, Joel B. Spigler. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with the Pastor Larry Aikens officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Monday for the convenience of family and friends. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion Honor Guard, Hagerstown.
