Mr. and Mrs. Martin A. Shurnitski of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996.
Father Smith officiated a Mass in their honor at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Williamsport.
Mr. and Mrs. Shurnitski were married Aug. 10, 1946, at St. Patrick's Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., by Father Frances G. Barrett.
A party at the couple's home was hosted by their children, Frann Mummert and Brenda Meikle, both of Centreville, Va., and Martin Shurnitski of Falling Waters, W.Va.
Mr. Shurnitski is retired from Mack Trucks Inc., and Mrs. Shurnitski, the former Ann Wilson, is retired from Washington County Department of Social Services.
They have five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step great-grandchildren.

(Obituary of Martin Shurnitski: "MARTIN ANTHONY SHURNITSKI, 83, of 16106 Oak Tree Lane, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Julia Manor in Hagerstown. Born Nov. 11, 1921, in Plymouth, Pa., he was the son of the late Stanley and Frances Trasko Shurnitski. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School. He was employed as a machinist by Mack Trucks Inc. in Hagerstown, retiring in 1986. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Williamsport. He was a member of the Retired Submarine Veterans of America, Potomac American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport, The Improved Order of Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84 of Williamsport, Knights of Columbus Thomas Pangborn Council 1356 of Hagerstown and Mack Golden Bulldogs. He is survived by his wife, Ann Isabelle Wilson Shurnitski, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946; two daughters, Frances A. Shurnitski and Brenda M. Meikle, both of Centreville, Va.; one son, Martin S. Shurnitski of Hagerstown; two sisters, Stella Konopka and Elizabeth Prezioso, both of Milford, Conn.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Linevich and Mary Buli, and one brother, Joseph Shurnitski. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Williamsport; burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport; arrangements were by Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport.")
(Obituary of Ann Shurnitski: "Ann Isabelle Shurnitski, 81, of Williamsport, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Hagerstown. Born Jan. 9, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James Reid and Annie Benson Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Anthony Shurnitski, in 2005. She was a graduate of Plymouth (Pa.) High School. She was employed as a case worker by the State of Maryland Department of Social Services in Hagerstown, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Williamsport. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality of St. Augustine's. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda M. Meikle of Centreville, Va.; one son, Martin S. Shurnitski of Hagerstown; one sister, Margaret Harry of Yonkers, N.Y.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances A. Shurnitski; two sisters, Pauline Wilson and Mary Wilson; and three brothers, William Wilson, John Wilson and James Wilson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport. The Rev. Stephen E. Hook will be celebrant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, where a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. by the Rev. Stephen E. Hook.
