Mr. and Mrs. Raymond R. Wollard were honored with a surprise celebration of their 50th Wedding anniversary Saturday, July 13, 1996, at the American Legion on Northern Ave. in Hagerstown.
They were married July 22, 1946 at Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Charles Lefew.
The party was hosted by their children: son, Ray, and his wife, Carolyn; son, Mike, and his wife Barb; daughter, Rayetta Guynes and friend John Ryder and their grandchildren.
More than 100 relatives and friends attended.
Mrs. Wollard is the former Betty Crilley, daughter of the late John and Ottie Crilley of Hagerstown.
Mr. Wollard is the son of the late James and Daisy Wollard of Hagerstown.
Mrs. Wollard is a homemaker.
Mr. Wollard served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II.
He retired from Western Maryland Railroad in 1985 after 43 years of service.
The couple has resided in Hagerstown since 1946.

(Obituary of Raymond Wollard: "Raymond Russell Wollard Sr., 88, of Hagerstown passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, surrounded by his loving family. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late James Franklin Sr. and Daisy Lee (Pleasant) Wollard. He also was preceded in death by a brother, James Franklin Wollard Jr.; and his son-in-law, John Ryder. He was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He worked for the Western Maryland, Chessie System and CSX railroads, and retired as an engineer with 43 years of service. He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown A.F.&A.M. Lodge 217, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Railroad Old Timers Club. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and visiting railroad museums and reading about railroad and train history. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Ruth (Crilley) Wollard; three children, Raymond R. Wollard II and wife, Carolyn, Rayetta R. Ryder, and Michael J. Wollard and wife, Barbara, all of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren, Laura Cromwell (James), Brian Ryder (Alexandra), Kristen Leggett (John), Kelly Hessong (David), Sarah Staley (Kane), Rachel Olson (Jake) and Michael Wollard; and 15 great-grandchildren, Tosh Olson, Roxy Olson, Charlotte Staley, Delaney Cromwell, Eli Leggett, Alivia Leggett, Gabrielle Ryder, Emily Ryder, Jeremiah Ryder, Christian Ebert, Ashlyn Hinkle, Lane Hessong, Amanda Hessong, Peyton Hessong and Ashton Hessong. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jerry Lowans officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. (Obituary of Betty Wollard: "Betty Ruth Wollard, 92, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, at Doey’s House, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 27, 1927 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John K. and Ottie Belle (Baker) Crilley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Raymond Russell Wollard; two brothers, Richard Crilley and Donald Crilley (infant); one sister, Martha Hutson; a son-in-law, John Ryder; and a grandson, Kane I. Staley. Mrs. Wollard was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church; Queen Esther No. 3 Order of the Eastern Star; and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Ladies Auxiliary, all of Hagerstown. Her hobbies included playing bingo, cards, reading and traveling. Mrs. Wollard is survived by three children, Raymond R. Wollard II (Carolyn), Rayetta R. Ryder and Michael J.
