(Obituary for Erma Bunz: "Erma Louise Bunz was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1921, at the family homeplace on 112th and West Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska. She was the second of four children to Henry C. and Minnie (Sieck) Bock. Erma and her siblings attended Oakdale School on West Center Street in Omaha from Kindergarten through eighth grade. She then went to Benson High School and graduated in 1939. During the summers of her eighth grade and high school years Erma worked as a car hop for the Dutch Mill Ice Cream stand in Omaha. She also worked Saturdays and holidays as a waitress at the Brandeis Pompei Restaurant. Shortly after graduating from Benson High, Erma began office work at a Motor Parts Company which then moved to the McIninch Packard Car dealership on Harney Street in Omaha. She continued her office work until she was married. Erma was a homemaker and helped on the farm, also worked at Goldstein Chapman’s women’s apparel store when Roger was in the service (Army) and Karen at college. Erma loved ballroom dancing, traveling, and taking pictures (many treasured snapshots throughout the years). She could be often found at Millrose Dance Hall in Millard on Saturday nights. She had the pleasure of dancing to orchestras such as Guy Lombardo, Henry Busse, Tiny Little’s Danceland, Orrin Tucker, and Glenn Miller. After World War II Erma met Howard “Ted” Bunz at the Millrose Dance Hall. They were married on September 2, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, where Erma had been baptized and confirmed. They made their home on the Bunz family farm, east of Bennington, until moving to their new home on Allen Street in 1979. Their children: Roger Howard and Karen Louise grew up on the farm, and were baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Erma was a Sunday School teacher and both she and Ted served on Stewardship and Social Ministry committees. Erma, Ted, and family loved sports and enjoyed traveling. Erma and Ted followed Roger and Karen’s many sporting activities in high school and college. They continued to be loyal fans of Karen’s high school volleyball and basketball teams, Roger and Karen’s softball teams, along with their grandsons’ sporting events. Erma and Ted enjoyed being on a Bennington bowling league for many years. Special highlights were traveling to all fifty states, Canada, Europe and celebrating the 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. Erma will be remembered for her wit and fun loving personality. Enjoy life and make the most of it. Do it right or don’t do it at all. That’s the way the mop flops. That’s the way the world turns. She always seemed to add a bit of humor to defuse a stressful situation. Erma passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at Life Care of Elkhorn Nursing Home in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Minnie, husband Ted, son Roger, sisters Dorothy Schultz and Bernice Bock and brother Delmer Bock. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and John Ueberrhein of Valley, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Alice Bunz; grandchildren Kathryn and Mike Miller, Kimberly and Jeff Cowman, Ryan and Lindsey Ueberrhein and Jason Ueberrhein.")
