Former Bloomfield, IA residents to observe 65th anniversary
Delbert Taylor Foster and Bernice (Bunny) Hollander Foster of Gaithersburg, Md., will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2003.
They were married in Birmingham and spent their honeymoon in the Ozarks of Missouri.
Mr. Foster was born in Kansas but moved to Albia as a child.
Bunny was born in Fairfield.
Both were educated in Iowa school.
Mrs. Foster graduated from Birmingham High School and Iowa Wesleyan College and did her graduate work in the east.
Delbert graduated from Albia High School and from Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames.
He did further graduate work at Colorado State University.
The couple lived in Iowa for 16 years after their marriage and their only daughter, Christy Lou, was born while Delbert was at Iowa State.
In 1954, they moved to Maryland where Delbert joined the University of Maryland (UM). Christy Lou graduated from Gaithersburg High School.
Bernice went back to teaching at Laytonsville Elementary in Montgomery County and stayed there for 25 years.
Delbert was with ISU and UM for 43 years, working for the Cooperative Extension.
He was Extension Director in Davis County from 1938 to 1940.
The couple's first home was in Bloomfield.
Upon retirement from UM, Delbert spent 20 years working part time with the noxious weed control program with the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
They both retired in 1980 and have spent their time traveling around the world.
In 1988, they lost their daughter but have a grandson Richard Foster Edwards and wife Lynda, great-granddaughter Kristina Page, great-grandson Devin and son-in-law Richard C. Edwards, all of New Jersey.
