Mr. and Mrs. David L. Smith of Palmyra will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2001.
Rosalie Hightower and David L. Smith were united in marriage on June 2, 1956, at the Waldo Avenue Baptist Church in Independence.
Mrs. Smith is the daughter of the late Mathew and Mary Pursley Hightower.
Mr. Smith is the son of Helen Wilcoxon Smith of Odessa and the late Estel Smith.
They are the parents of two children, Daniel Dwight Smith of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Rozanne Lewis of Palmyra.
They have three grandchildren, twins Morgan and Zachary Lewis and Vanessa Smith.
Mr. Smith graduated from Odessa High School in 1947 and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1946 and briefly attended Kansas City Junior College and Longview Community College.
The Smiths moved to Palmyra from Blue Springs in the spring of 1997.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith took early retirement from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence in the fall of 1992 after 42 and 15 years of service respectively.
Mr. Smith was in contract administration at the plant and Mrs. Smith was the industrial engineering secretary there.
Mrs. Smith has also served the state of Missouri as a notary public for more than 30 years.
Both are still active in the health field locally.
A former legal secretary, Mrs. Smith works as a home-based medical transcriptionist for the Hannibal Clinic and Mr. Smith serves as courier.
They are members of the First Baptist Church of Palmyra.
