John and Marilyn Volker

John and Marilyn Volker, Topeka, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday with a family gathering.

The day's activities were hosted by their three daughters and their families, Debra and Don Butz, Topeka; Lisa and Bill Stine, Cave Creek, Ariz.; and Renee and Mike Rector, Tijeras, N.M.

The Volkers have five granddaughters.

John Volker and Marilyn Neill were married June 19, 1954, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka.

(Obituary of John Volker: "John J. Volker, Jr., of Topeka, passed away early Saturday morning, March 3, 2007 at Midland Hospice. He was 72. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Volker was employed in sales and marketing. He had attended Washburn University and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. He will be especially remembered for his passion for his family and golf. John was born in Topeka on July 13, 1934 the son of John J. Volker and Catherine Crawford. He was married to Marilyn Louise Neill on June 19, 1954 at the Assumption Church in Topeka. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three daughters, Deb Butz, Wakarusa, KS, Lisa Stine, Cave Creek, AZ and Renee Rector, Tijeras, NM.; two sisters, Mary Kay Volker, Waxahachie, TX and Chris Stansbury, Topeka and five granddaughters, Sara and Kelly Schodde, Mira Rector, and Jenny and Laura Stine. Mass of Christian Burial for John Volker will be Wednesday morning at 9:30 at the Church of the Assumption. The mass will be preceded by a recitation of the rosary at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 West Sixth 66603.")
