Elvera and Vernon Kufahl
Vernon L. and Elvera Kufahl observed their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2004.
Vernon Kufahl and Elvera Marten were married June 7, 1944, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duluth.
Their five children and spouses are Laven and Mike Stanford, Pine Bluff, Ark.; Dale and Corlene Kufahl, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Jonetta and Stephen Roy, Arvada, Colo.; Lonnie and Kate Kufahl, Wheaton; and Randy and Kari Kufahl, Wheaton.

(Obituary of Vernon Kufahl: "Vernon Lee Kufahl, 84, of Wheaton, Kansas, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Onaga Community Hospital in Onaga. Vern was a life-long member of the community. Vern was born June 19, 1924 in Wheaton, Kansas, son of Ferdinand Frederick and Rosa Pauline Teske Kufahl. He attended Wheaton grade school and St. Paul Lutheran School. He graduated from Wheaton Rural High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a medic in the European Theatre. Vern returned from military service and worked at the Kufahl Hardware Company spending a lot of his time putting up windmills and water systems as electricity was being installed in the rural areas. He later became owner of Kufahl Hardware Company in Wheaton and ran the store until his death. Vern attended Kansas City Mortuary Service School and became a Funeral Director and Embalmer. In 2008 he was recognized by the Kansas Association of Funeral Directors for 50 years of continuous service. He owned and operated Kufahl Funeral Home for many years and even after selling the funeral home continued to help with funeral services. Vern was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. He also was a former member of the Wheaton Fire Department, former Wheaton City Council member and served as Wheaton School Board president when the new grade school was built. Vern enjoyed taking trips with his family, playing softball in his younger years, watching college sports and attending various sporting events for his children and grandchildren. Vern married Elvera R. Marten on June 9, 1944 in Duluth, Kansas. She survives at their home. He is also survived by five children, Lavon Sanford and her husband, Mike, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Dale Kufahl and his wife, Corlene, Broken Arrow, Okalahoma; Jonetta Roy and her husband, Steve, Denver, Colorado, Lonnie Kufahl and his wife, Katie, and Randy Kufahl and his wife, Kari, both of Wheaton; twenty one grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alton Kufahl, and a sister, Lorna Abitz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery. Mr. Kufahl will lie-in-state on Tuesday at Kufahl Funeral Home in Wheaton from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to St. Luke Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour and those maybe be sent in care of the funeral home.")
