William and Ramona Phillips
William J. and Ramona I. Phillips of Topeka will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday.
Ramona Lanning and William Phillips were married April 18, 1953, at the Olathe Naval Air Station.
Their three children and their spouses are Daniel W. and Stephanie Phillips, Omaha, Neb.; Pamela D. and the Rev. Don Lewis, New Canton, Va.; and Jonie J. and Capt. Robert Tackett, who live overseas.
The couple have six grandchildren.
Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 20 years and is a veteran of the Korean War.
While he was stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1957, they visited several European countries.
Mr. Phillips retired as a senior master sergeant.
He retired in 2002 from Brackett Inc. in Topeka as a machinist after 33 years of service.
Mrs. Phillips was an administrative assistant for many years.
Her employers included AT&T, SBC, government civil service, county and private attorneys.
She worked for KSNT-TV for 16 years.
The couple have lived in Topeka for 34 years.

She was born August 22, 1932 in Sabetha, KS, the daughter of John and Pearl Lillian (Swan) Lanning. She was a graduate of Sabetha High School. Ramona married William Joe Bill Phillips on April 18, 1953 in Olathe, KS. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2008. (Obituary of William Phillips: "William 'Joe Bill' Phillips, 81, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008. He was born July 27, 1927 in Fairview, Kansas, the son of Elery Joe and Thelma Leona (Broderick) Phillips. He was a 1945 graduate of Honey Creek Union High School, Honey Creek, NE. He attained the rank of Corporal after 18 months of service in the U.S. Army and the rank of Senior Master Sergeant during 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1968. He was employed as an electrical machinist for Brackett Inc., Topeka until March of 2008. Bill married Ramona Ilene Lanning on April 18, 1953 in Olathe, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Daniel Wayne Phillips (Stephanie), Bellevue, NE, Pamela Diane Lewis (Don), Weedville, PA, and Jonie Jo Tackett (Robert), Huntsville, AL; four sisters, Lovella Wondola Graber, Dania Beach, FL, Mary Katherine Holden, Hiawatha, KS, Betty Lou Kellenberger, Sabetha, KS, Ethel Delores Gilbert, Topeka, KS; a brother, Richard Lawrence Phillips, Sabetha, KS; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly, Angela, and Joey Lewis, Carly and Nicholas Phillips. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Penwell-GabelMid-Town Chapel in Topeka. Mr. Phillips will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2008 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force will be at Mt.
