Mary Etta and Jack Justis
Jack and Mary Etta Justis of Topeka celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family.
Mary Etta Hurst and Jack Justis were married Nov. 7, 1942, in Topeka.
Their daughters and their husbands are Jack Etta and Ron Feasel, Meriden; Jolene Justis, Kapaa, Hawaii; Jerie and Carlos Tichenor, Hoyt; and Janice and Chris Garcia, Basehor. Their daughter Judy Quy is deceased.
The couple have 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Justis retired in 1979 from the Gas Service Co. as a building representative after 28 years of service.
Mrs. Justis retired in 1988 from the Kansas Department of Revenue after 20 years of service.

(Obituary of Mary Etta Justis: "Mary Etta Hurst Justis, 88, of Basehor, KS, died Thursday December 13, 2012 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Mary Etta was born December 27, 1923, in Butler County, KS, the daughter of Arthur Grant and Ellen Sibbet Stauffer Hurst. She graduated from Soldier High School, then went on to earn a certificate from the Teachers Normal Training School and to teach in a one-room school house. She married Jack V. Justis on November 7, 1942, in Topeka, KS. They lived in the Topeka area until moving to Ozawkie, KS, in 1974. Mary Etta became a member of the Topeka Bible Church in 1953 and was very active there, and later, as a member of the Rock Creek Bible Church. She worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue for many years, retiring in 1988. She moved to Basehor in 2008. Mary Etta was always a very social person and it was common for gatherings of both family and friends to be held in her home. Until just recently, she hosted the weekly Thursday Morning Coffee Group, where much laughter was shared with dear friends. Family was the most important thing to her. She loved and accepted everyone unconditionally and was always ready with a listening ear. Mary Etta was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jack V. Justis, on June 14, 2006, and by daughter Judy Quy, who died August 26, 1999. Survivors include four daughters; Jacketta Feasel and husband Ronald, Meriden, KS; Jolene Justis and husband Mike Cudworth, Kapaa, Hawaii; Jerie Tichenor and husband Carlos, Hoyt, KS; and Janice Garcia and husband Chris, Basehor, KS; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, December 17th, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane St., followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. (Obituary of Jack Justis: "Jack V. Justis, 87, Topeka, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, with his wife of 63 years by his side. Services were Saturday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial followed in the Mayetta Cemetery. Visitation was Friday at the funeral home and at the Southwest Topeka Bible Church. The family suggests memorials to the Topeka Bible Church, Rock Creek Bible Church, or Midland Hospice. They may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 280, Topeka KS 66440. Mr. Justis was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Wray, Colo., the son of Roy and Edith Wilson Justis. He moved to Kansas as a child and graduated from Mayetta High School. He became a member of the Topeka Bible Church in 1953, and served there as a deacon. He later helped establish, and was a member and an elder, of the Rock Creek Bible Church. He was also an active member of Highland Park Optimist Club and a charter member of the Lake Perry Optimist Club. He worked for the Gas Service Co. in Topeka as a new building representative, retiring in 1981. He married MaryEtta Hurst on Nov. 7, 1942, in Topeka. They lived in the Topeka area until moving to Ozawkie in 1974. They returned to Topeka in 1991, and his wife still resides there. Mr. Justis was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Quy, on Aug. 26, 1999; and a sister, Ida Mae Large Jones, in 1992.
