Alan and Ellen Eppler
Alan V. and Ellen E. Eppler of Topeka will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family gathering on Thursday at Rossville Valley Manor.
Ellen E. Shaver and Alan V. Eppler were married Nov. 7, 1942, in Manhattan.
They have one daughter, Barbara Cronkhite, and one granddaughter, Rachel Degand.
Mr. Eppler retired in 1981 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 36 years of service.
Mrs. Eppler retired in 1975 from Dibble's Grocery after 16 years of service.

(Obituary of Alan Eppler: "Alan V. Eppler, 85, Topeka, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Midland Hospice House. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 37 years of service. He was born May 15, 1918, in Green, the son of Theodore and Mae Houser Eppler. He graduated from Green High School. He served in the Army during World War II. Two years and eight months of that time was in Germany, France and Belgium. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1 in Topeka for 50 years. He had been a member of Elmont United Methodist Church since 1963 and for a long time, was in th Elmont Opry. He married Ellen E. Shaver on Nov. 7, 1942. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Cronkhite; and a granddaughter, Rachel Degand, both of Topeka. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mr. Eppler will lie in state from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Funeral Detail will be in West Lawn Memor ial Gardens in Topeka.
