Helen and Walter Pfeiffer
Walter and Helen Pfeiffer, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their marriage vows at the 5 p.m. Mass Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 312 N.E. Freeman in Topeka.
The couple also recently celebrated with a two-week cruise in Alaska.
Walter Pfeiffer and Helen Schiefelbein were married Sept. 27, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka. The nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. George Klansinki.
Their five children and spouses are Lori Ogan, Topeka; Pat Pfeiffer, Topeka; Rick and Karen Pfeiffer, Loveland, Colo.; Diane Linder, Kansas City, Kan.; and Bruce and Kim Pfeiffer, Topeka.
They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Pfeiffer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He later served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He retired in 1986 from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier after 33 years of service.
Mrs. Pfeiffer is beginning her 50th year as a homemaker.

(Obituary of Helen Pfeiffer: "Helen Pfeiffer, 78, of Topeka, Kansas, died March 9, 2013 at Midland Hospice House. She was born on May 24, 1934 in Grainfield, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Wasinger) Schiefelbein. Helen attended St. Joseph's grade school and worked at Seymour's at the age of 15 to help her family. She also worked at Woolworths Department Store and Crosby Brothers where she met her future husband Walter in 1951. She married Walter H. Walt Pfeiffer on September 27, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage together. First and foremost in her life were her faith and love for her family. Helen dedicated her life to her husband and her five children. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, vegetable and flower gardening, reading, canning, going to church, traveling, and dancing, especially to polka music. She was a great cook, known for her delicious krautstreudels. She also enjoyed volunteering for the church choir, at Let's Help, the Germanfest and working church garage sales. She was also a multi-gallon blood donor. Helen was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Moose Lodge, and the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She is survived by her children: Bruce (Kim) Pfeiffer, Diane Linder, Rick (Karen) Pfeiffer, Patrick Pfeiffer, and Lori Ogan, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a brother George Schiefelbein, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edward Schiefelbein, Joseph Schiefelbein, Amelia Sommers, Sylvester Schiefelbein, Mary Artzer, Anna Sale, Eugene Schiefelbein, Irene Gardner, and Leona Montgomery, two sons in law, Bobby Linder, Duane Ogan, and a granddaughter Jamie Linder. Helen will lie in state at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday where a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m., a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m, and an Altar Society rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. (Obituary of Walter Pfeiffer: "Walter Herbert Pfeiffer, 86, of Topeka, Kansas, died March 7, 2014. He was born January 22, 1928 in Holton, Kansas, the son of William Pfeiffer and Louise (Hermann) Pfeiffer. Walter attended Holton High School and Clark's Business College. With the permission of his parents, he joined the Navy at the age of 17, serving at the end of World War II and during the Korean War. After receiving his discharge from the Navy, Walter enlisted in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He served his country for 30 years. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Helen Schiefelbein. They were married September 27, 1952 at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, in Topeka, Kansas. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. He worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier for over 30 years, retiring January 31, 1987. He was a proud 57 year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO. He was a Fourth Degree and life member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 555, serving as Governor for two years. Walt was also a member of the Highland Park Optimist Club, a BSA Webelos Leader for his sons Rick and Pat, a life member of the VFW Post 1650 and American Legion Post 400. He loved listening to music, watching western movies and eating German food. Walt enjoyed traveling and he and Helen spent much of their retirement exploring the United States. They also sailed the seas together enjoying many cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. His favorite trip by far was a visit to his relatives in Germany. He is survived by his brothers Clarence (Lorna) Pfeiffer and Bill (JoAnn) Pfeiffer, children, Bruce (Kim) Pfeiffer, Diane Linder, Rick (Karen) Pfeiffer, Pat Pfeiffer and Lori Ogan, eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, Sons-In-Laws Bobby Linder and Duane Ogan and granddaughter Jamie Linder. Walter will lie in state at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11th with a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. and a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
