Don and Twyla Gaston
Don and Twyla Gaston of Axtell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary as guests of honor at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 28, 2001 at St. Malachy's Parish Hall at 1008 Main St. in Beattie.
Don Gaston and Twyla Stowell were married Jan. 28, 1951, at the home of the bride's parents, Delbert and Hazel Stowell, near Vermillion.
Hosting the open house will be their daughters, Marsha Marten of Lenexa and Lori Scheibe of Summerfield and their families.
The Gastons have three granddaughters and one grandson.
The couple request no gifts.

(Obituaries of Twyla Gaston: "Twyla M. Gaston, age 81 of Beattie passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 10, at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. Rev. Camille Sutton and Sister Eulalia Kloeker officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ while Kathy Rueger sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden”. The pallbearers were Leslie Lane, Dave Lane, Lindsay Ingram, Jason Ingram, Andrea Scheibe, Jared Scheibe and Keith Heideman. The honorary pallbearers were Pat O’Neil, Mary Faith Dalinghaus, Bill Oborny, Eileen Oltman, Kathy Totten, Laurie Wright, Carolyn Walker, Barb Busch and Stacy Wullschleger. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery."
Twyla Marie Gaston, 81, passed away February 7, 2010 at Cambridge Place after an extended battle with Alzheimer's. Twyla was born September 17, 1928 to Delbert and Hazel (Stowell) Bishop. In 1947, Twyla received an emergency teaching certificate from Kansas State University. She and her twin sister, Maxine, each taught four grades in a one room school near Home, KS, for three years. On January 28, 1951, she married Donald Gaston. Along with raising a family and being active in the farming operation, Twyla returned to teaching in 1968 at Beattie Elementary School where she taught Kindergarten and Chapter I Reading and Math. She retired in 1996 after 26 years. Survivors include her husband, Donald; two daughters, Marsha Marten and husband Lynn of Lenexa, Lori Scheibe and husband Claude of Summerfield; four grandchildren, Leslie (Dave) Lane of Denver, CO, Lindsay (Jason) Ingram, Overland Park, Andrea Scheibe (Keith Heideman), Centralia, and Jared Scheibe, Manhattan; one great granddaughter, Jayden Grace Heideman; one great grandson, Mason James Lane; two sisters, twin Maxine Bramhall, Vermillion, and Marlene Gustin, Marysville; and two brothers, Max Stowell, Marysville, and Kent Stowell, Vliets. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Jo on Sept. 7, 1981. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
