Kovach 60th Anniversary
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Bill and Fran (Stoyek) Kovach of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of DuBois and Curwensville, will celebrate their 60th anniversary Monday.
They were married July 18, 1945, at St. Stanislas Church in Erie.
A family celebration will be held later this summer.
He is a 1938 graduate of Curwensville High School.
She is a 1938 graduate of DuBois High School.
In 1969 they moved to Phoenix. They owned and managed Bill’s Shoe Hut in Maryvale Mall until retiring.
They have four children: Valerie Fischer of Loveland, Ohio, Michael Kovach of East Hampstead, N.H., Bill Kovach of Glendale, Ariz., and Dennis Kovach of San Ramon, Calif.

(Obituary of Bill Kovach: "William (Bill) Kovach, 85, of Phoenix, AZ, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ on August 29, 2005. He will be forever in our hearts. Bill, son of Michael & Mary Kovach was born on January 9, 1920, in Curwensville, PA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother John; sister Jean Kuhn; and nephew Johnny Kovach. He is survived by his sisters Grace Francemore, Clearfield, PA, Louise Kovach, Erie, PA, and Dorothy Larson, Erie, PA. Survivors also include his beloved wife for 60 years, Frances; four children Valerie Fischer, Loveland, OH; Michael, E. Hempstead, NH; William, Glendale, AZ; Dennis, San Ramon, CA; as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Bill and his wife Frances owned and operated Kovach's Department Store in Curwensville, PA until 1969, then moved to Phoenix and opened and operated Bill's Shoe Hut until their retirement in 1985. Bill was a graduate of Duffs Business School in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the National Guard during World War II. He was an active member of the American Legion, and a life member of the Elks. Bill loved all animals, especially his faithful dog Rusty. He was a great conversationalist, and easily made friends out of strangers. He loved to visit with family and play cards with friends. He also enjoyed sports. He was known for his generous support, gentle heart, and great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten, and his memory and spirit will be with us always. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated September 3 at 1:30 PM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3630 N. 71st Ave., Phoenix, AZ. (Obituary of Fran Kovach: "Frances (Fran) Eva Stoyek Kovach, 92, a long time Glendale, AZ resident, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Dec 20, 2012, after breaking her hip a few months earlier. Fran was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grand-mother. Fran was a very devoted Catholic, attending mass regularly, member of Silver Bells, held various church treasurer positions, always helping out where needed, and always looking forward to reading on Sunday mornings. Her strong faith was evident as she lived a long and gracious life. Fran will always be remembered as a gentle and loving lady. She will truly be missed but will finally be in the presence of her Lord with perfect hearing. Fran, a former resident of Curwensville, PA, owned and operated Kovach's Shoe and Clothing store with her husband William. After moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1969, Fran and William owned and operated Bill's Shoe Hut until retiring in 1985. Fran attended St Raphael, St Augustine, and St Vincent de Paul over the years. Fran was born on March 22, 1920, daughter of the late George and Veronica Golla Stoyek of Dubois, PA. Fran was preceded in death by her parents; husband William in 2005; son William in 2012; and brothers Albert and Joseph. She is survived by brother Edward Stoyek of Curwensville, PA.; daughter Valerie Fischer of Loveland, Ohio; sons Michael Kovach of Missouri City, TX. and Dennis Kovach of San Ramon, CA.; six grand-children and eight great-grand-children. A Memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Parish Glendale, 5525 W. Acoma Road, Glendale AZ 85306.
